Lead Engineer- Frontend & Android

About the Role:

We are looking for a hands-on Lead Engineer Frontend & Android to build and scale high-quality user experiences across Android and web/desktop platforms.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in native Android, modern web technologies, React, Node.js, WebView integrations, frontend performance, and production troubleshooting.

This is a hands-on lead role where you will drive architecture, development, performance optimization, engineering quality, and technical direction while mentoring engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of Android and modern web applications.
• Build and maintain Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android development practices.
• Design seamless integrations between native Android and WebView-based experiences.
• Own WebView/native interaction including JavaScript bridges, authentication/session handling, navigation, deep links, permissions, and event communication.
• Build scalable and responsive web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Work with Node.js-based services / BFF layers and integrate frontend applications with backend APIs.
• Define frontend architecture, reusable components, development standards, and engineering best practices.
• Drive frontend and mobile performance optimization initiatives across applications.
• Monitor and improve Core Web Vitals, including LCP, INP, CLS, and overall page responsiveness.
• Optimize page load time, rendering, bundle size, API/network performance, caching, memory usage, and application startup time.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across browsers, Android devices, WebViews, APIs, and client-side applications.
• Debug production issues including crashes, ANRs, JavaScript errors, WebView failures, browser compatibility issues, and API failures.
• Implement strong monitoring and observability for frontend and mobile applications.
• Drive automated testing, release quality, CI/CD, and production readiness.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate closely with Product, Design, Backend, QA, and DevOps teams.

Must Have Skills:

• 4-7 years of relevant frontend/mobile engineering experience.

• Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining production Android applications.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, with working knowledge of Java.

• Strong hands-on experience with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript development.

• Good understanding of Node.js and its use in frontend/backend integration or BFF architectures.

• Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

• Deep experience with WebView-based applications and native-WebView communication.

• Strong understanding of Android SDK, application lifecycle, concurrency, networking, memory management, and debugging.

• Strong understanding of frontend architecture, component design, state management, and API integration.

• Strong knowledge of Core Web Vitals and web performance optimization.

• Hands-on experience optimizing:

• LCP, INP, CLS

• Page load and rendering performance

• JavaScript bundle size

• Network/API latency

• Caching

• Memory usage

• Application startup performance

• Ability to analyze performance using browser and Android profiling tools and drive measurable improvements.

• Strong understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and cross-device behaviour.

• Experience with automated testing, code reviews, Git workflows, and release processes.

• Strong experience with production monitoring, crash analysis, logging, and issue debugging.

• Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical design and engineering quality.

Good to Have Skills:

• Experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android Jetpack components.
• Experience with frameworks such as Next.js or similar React-based platforms.
• Experience with frontend state-management frameworks and reusable component/design systems.
• Experience with Webpack, Vite, code splitting, lazy loading, SSR/CSR, and frontend build optimization.
• Experience with tools such as Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools, Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog, or equivalent.
• Experience with testing tools such as JUnit, Espresso, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for Android and web applications.
• Understanding of frontend security, accessibility, and browser standards.
• Familiarity with iOS architecture and platform considerations.
• Experience working on applications with large user bases, high traffic, or significant device diversity.

Experience & Education:

• 4-7 years of relevant experience in Android, frontend, mobile, or product engineering.
• B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, IT, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

What Success Looks Like:

You should be equally comfortable discussing Android and WebView architecture as you are discussing React rendering, Node.js integration, Core Web Vitals, page performance, browser profiling, crash analysis, and production optimization.

You should be able to identify performance bottlenecks, define the right engineering approach, and drive measurable improvements in user experience and application performance.
