Lead Engineer - Payments Platform

For our client, we are seeking a Lead Engineer - Payments Platform to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space.

This role will shape the engineering direction for a global payments platform that supports core financial workflows and operational reliability.

You will work across product and design partners to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, while also contributing hands-on code and technical leadership.

The position calls for a strong backend engineer who can build high-throughput services, improve platform capabilities, and help the team move quickly with modern tooling.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $206,000 – $260,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Design and build payment platform capabilities to improve operational posture
• Develop a global bill payment product for cash flow management
• Create high-throughput core platform services
• Integrate AI tools to enhance engineering productivity
• Contribute to production code and proof-of-concepts for new features
• Mentor engineers and help set the technical direction of the team
• Translate complex business needs into engineering solutions

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience in backend systems and distributed architecture
• Proficient in API design and SQL/NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with modern backend languages, including C#, Java, Golang, and C++
• Experience with AWS
• Demonstrated ability to directly contribute to production code
• Strong leadership skills for mentoring and setting technical direction
• Excellent problem-solving and agile execution capabilities
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Product and Design teams
