Lead Field Technician

Join our team as a Working Lead on an outside construction crew, building and maintaining infrastructure. You work hands-on every day alongside the crew: setting poles, placing conduit and fiber, running equipment, and keeping the job moving. You also carry the lead role for your crew, directing the day's work and keeping safety and quality on track. We offer competitive pay, steady project work, and a path into field management.

Responsibilities

• Work hands-on with the crew installing utility poles and mounting equipment.
• Install conduit, place fiber optic cable, and prepare job sites.
• Operate light excavation equipment (mini-excavators, trenchers, skid steers).
• Read blueprints, construction drawings, and site plans, and set up the day's work from them.
• Conduct field walkouts and document existing infrastructure and site conditions.
• Direct the crew's daily tasks, show newer crew members how the work is done, and check the work against quality and safety standards.
• Run the daily job hazard briefing and stop unsafe work.
• Keep materials, tools, and equipment ready for the crew, and coordinate with project managers and supervisors on schedule.
• Keep the worksite clean, safe, and organized in all weather and terrain conditions.
• Report progress, issues, and site needs to the project team.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in utility construction or related outdoor construction work.
• Experience leading or training crew members while working in the field.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site plans.
• Safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and light excavation equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
• Working knowledge of OSHA construction safety standards.
• Reliable transportation, punctuality, and a valid driver's license.
• Ability to travel as required (including occasional overnight stays).

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 30 certification.
• Traffic control certification (MOT/Flagger) a plus.
• Experience with underground utility locating and fiber optic installation.
• First Aid/CPR certification beneficial.
• CDL a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
