What they need
Lead Financial Translator (LFT)
Full-Time | Likes Accounting (LAF) This is a client-facing, people-managing, communication-heavy role.
This Role Is for You If…
You see yourself first as a financial translator, not a pure accountant.
You are confident in accounting fundamentals — but what you’re known for is:
- Explaining numbers clearly
- Managing people and expectations
- Keeping things from falling apart
- Communicating early, calmly, and often
You don’t need to be the visionary.
You don’t need to be the “leader of leaders.”
You do need to be the person who:
- Makes things make sense
- Keeps work moving
- Holds people accountable without drama
- Helps clients and teammates feel oriented and supported
If you’ve ever thought:
“I’m good at accounting, but my real strength is helping people understand what’s going on.”
This role is probably for you.
About Likes Accounting
Likes Accounting helps small business owners:
- Understand their finances
- Make better decisions
- Feel less stressed about money
We believe:
- Communication prevents chaos
- Systems create peace
- Accuracy matters, but clarity matters more
- People don’t fail — processes and expectations do
Our team is built around Financial Translators, not siloed accountants.
The Lead Financial Translator is a working manager. Not a strategist, not a visionary, not an executive.
Why This Role Exists
This role exists because:
- Clients need a steady, consistent point of contact
- Financial Translators need day-to-day management and support
- Work needs to be reviewed, communicated, and delivered on time
- Leadership needs someone who can run the lane without escalation
You are here to:
- Make sure work gets done correctly
- Make sure people know what’s expected
- Make sure clients feel informed and supported
- Reduce last-minute stress and rework
This is a clarity and consistency role.
What You’ll Spend Your Time Doing
Client Communication & Translation
- Lead client meetings and check-ins
- Translate financial results into plain language
- Explain what matters now, what can wait, and why
- Send clear, proactive follow-up emails
- Handle client questions and concerns calmly and professionally
Team Management
- Run weekly 1:1s with Financial Translators
- Review work, Looms, and meeting recordings
- Manage deadlines, especially Month-End Close
- Address performance issues early and clearly
- Support FTs without rescuing or micromanaging
Quality & Follow-Through
- Review books and flag issues for correction
- Ensure deliverables go out accurately and on time
- Maintain client nuance sheets
- Use and improve SOPs
- Escalate issues appropriately (and early)
This role is communication-heavy.
You will spend more time talking, writing, and reviewing than “doing the books.”
Who Does Well in This Role
You are likely someone who:
- Has 7–10+ years in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial operations
- Is very comfortable in QuickBooks Online
- Understands month-end close and reconciliations
- Has managed or informally coached other accountants
- Has worked directly with small business owners
- Identifies more as a manager / translator than a technical specialist
You are:
- Clear, calm, and direct
- Organized and reliable
- Comfortable having the same conversation multiple times
- Able to balance empathy with accountability
- Strong in written communication
You don’t need to be flashy.
You need to be steady and communicative.
What Motivates You
You’re motivated by:
- Helping people understand what’s going on
- Preventing problems before they blow up
- Seeing work completed well and on time
- Supporting others to do their jobs better
- Being trusted to manage a process end-to-end
You are not motivated by:
- Titles or status
- Vision-setting or big-picture strategy
- Competition or internal politics
- Chaos or heroics
- Being the smartest person in the room
What This Role Is Not
This role is not for someone who:
- Wants to avoid client communication
- Prefers deep technical accounting over people management
- Is early in their accounting career
- Wants an apprenticeship or training-to-account path
- Dislikes follow-ups, reminders, or repetition
- Needs authority or hierarchy to feel effective
This is a managerial translator role, not a senior technical accountant role.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, success means:
- Clients feel informed and supported
- Financial Translators know what’s expected
- Work goes out on time with fewer surprises
- Communication is proactive, not reactive
- Leadership spends less time firefighting
You make things feel organized, clear, and handled.
