Explorer Lead Instructor

Location: Carlsbad

Status: Full Time

Pay Range: $20-$26, DOE

Job Summary:

Seeking creative, energetic, and fun individuals to fill Lead Instructor positions for our Beacons Explorer vocational workshops. The lead instructor works with the associate instructors to create an engaging learning environment with Beacons' customized curriculum. Lead instructors will also develop activities to support the learning objectives through on-site and community activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead vocational training workshops using the custom/adapted Beacons curriculum for individuals with mild/moderate disabilities
• Instructors help develop and update curriculum
• Develop learning tools to support activities
• Work with associate instructors to optimize the learning experiences and growth of trainees in the workshops

Skills and Qualifications:

• Teaching experience
• Demonstrated success working with individuals with mild/moderate disabilities
• Knowledge and experience providing instructional scaffolding and differentiated learning whereby the instructor systematically builds on trainees’ experiences and knowledge as they are learning new skills.
• Experience providing ongoing progress reporting and data collection to record trainee’s progress and provide feedback to client, family, and program administrators
• Experience working with assistive technology to support those with different learning and communication styles
• Well-organized and good time management skills
• Innovative “outside the box” thinking to help create tools or materials to help trainees learn and retain subject matter taught
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record. This role requires daily driving of participants to and from community-based activities and local employer sites.
• Proficient with education-related programs and tools (such as Google Suites, Canva, and Zoom)
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work with our trainees, families, community members, and agency representatives.
• Teaching credential and degree preferred but not required
• Successful completion of a LiveScan and background check
