Lead Laboratory Technician (LT I equivalent)

The Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) is seeking a Lead Laboratory Technician (LLT) to join the team. The Lead Laboratory Technician (LLT) takes on the responsibility of managing the science laboratories and the laboratory technician team, while ensuring strict compliance with Education Bureau safety guidelines. The LLT works closely with Science Department Head to support science education across Grades 6-12 in the IB MYP and DP and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma programs. 
 
Key Duties & Responsibilities

1.Supervise Lab Technician team:

• Supervise and coordinate the work of the Lab Technicians and provide input for their Performance Reviews to the Science Department Head.
• Instruct and supervise Lab Technicians in the maintenance of the laboratories, the preparation of practical lessons, and the enactment of the CDNIS Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.

2.Maintain Health & Safety standards in the laboratory:

• Comply with the EDB, EPD, and FSD guidelines and regulations for safety in science laboratories.
• Set up major health & safety rules in the laboratory.
• Manage the storage and disposal of chemicals.
• Maintain current Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals.
• Maintain chemical and equipment inventories.
• Coordinate the maintenance of equipment.

3.Construct Practical Schemes of Work (PSOW):

• Develop a system to record practical work for each Grade/Subject, i.e. the “Practical Scheme of Work.”

• Assist the Lab Technicians to record information, such as materials, quantities, dates, and risk assessments, in the PSOW.

• Communicate risks and precautions related to practical work to teachers.

• Make available Safety Data Sheets for teachers.

• Note: The duties and responsibilities listed here are not intended to be an exhaustive or exclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may arise and will be negotiated with the Science Lead Lab Technician by the Science Department Head and Upper School Principal.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 3 years of satisfactory service as a Laboratory Technician II or equivalent position.

• Possession of an approved Laboratory Technician Certificate or equivalent technical qualification recognized by the EDB.

• Good command of both Chinese and English, meeting the language proficiency requirements set by the Education Bureau.

• Strong leadership abilities, exceptional organizational skills, and deep knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations in a school setting.
