What they need

The principal role of the Lead Marine Engineer is to:

Package Management & Vendor Governance

  • Drive Marine Package Execution: Lead the definition, procurement support, award, and technical management of marine equipment packages, ensuring vendor deliverables and equipment are delivered on schedule to align with shipyard construction and integration milestones.
  • Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE): Formulate RFQ packages and engineering specifications for all marine systems; lead rigorous Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) and partner with Supply Chain/Procurement to determine vendor selection.
  • Vendor Integration: Supervise bi-directional technical integration between marine package vendors and overall topsides/hull engineering teams, ensuring vendor data is seamlessly incorporated into engineering registers, P&IDs, calculations, and layout drawings.

Vessel Life Extension & Conversion Engineering

  • Refurbishment & Life Extension (RLE): Direct the technical definition and scope of work for marine packages and systems refurbishment, life extension, and conversion.
  • Asset Assessment & Due Diligence: Lead candidate vessel condition surveys, site inspections, and physical audits across shipyards and offshore assets, coordinating the cataloguing and gap analysis of legacy documentation.

Class, Regulatory & Client Compliance

  • Basis of Design Alignment: Ensure all marine discipline deliverables rigorously comply with client Basis of Design (BOD), Yinson corporate standards, and relevant Classification Society (ABS, DNV, etc.) and Flag State regulations.
  • Specification & Deviation Management: Oversee the drafting of discipline-specific technical specifications, philosophy documents, and interface registers. Act as the primary technical point of contact with the client, managing technical queries (TQ) and the specification deviation register.
  • Safety & Risk Integration: Enforce the close-out and implementation of recommendations arising from HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and offshore safety studies within the marine design envelope.

Shipyard, Commissioning & Operational Support

  • Construction & Commissioning Leadership: Provide expert technical troubleshooting and lead on-site engineering resolutions during hull fabrication, yard integration, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and sea trials through to final commissioning and start-up.
  • Operational Readiness: Ensure seamless handover of validated marine engineering registers, operating philosophies, and as-built dossiers to the operations regime.
  • Global Mobility: Mobilize as required across regional and international conversion shipyards (China, Southeast Asia, Middle East), vendor testing facilities, engineering centers, and operating offshore production assets (FPSO/FSO).

QHSSE:

  • Every employee is personally responsible for safeguarding their own health and safety as well as that of others, properly using all provided welfare equipment, promptly reporting any quality issues or HSSE hazards to the QHSSE department, and actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end execution of the marine engineering scope in strict compliance with contract requirements, project specifications, class regulations, and budget constraints, proactively mitigating schedule delays and cost overruns.
  • Direct marine equipment vendors and contractors, tracking milestones, critical-path activities, and manufacturing progress to enforce corrective action plans whenever schedule or technical deviations arise.
  • Provide authoritative discipline inputs to weekly/monthly progress dashboards, KPI reporting, and executive reviews.
  • Serve as the focal point integrating marine systems across all engineering disciplines—including Hull, Topsides, Integration, Living Quarters (LQ), E&I/Telecoms, and Shipyard Naval Architecture teams.
  • Drive multi-disciplinary technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, applying a systems-engineering perspective to resolve complex interface challenges beyond the marine boundary limit.
  • Lead technical engagements and alignment sessions between clients, third-party engineering contractors, package vendors, classification societies, and warranty surveyors.
  • Interface closely with non-technical functions (Document Control, Project Planning, Contracts, and Cost Control) to ensure accurate change management and baseline tracking.
  • Formulate and execute discipline Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) across contractor and manufacturer yards; lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), site integration testing, and sign off on punch-list closeouts.
  • Represent the marine discipline in technical reviews, design audits, peer reviews, and constructability assessments.
  • Benchmark emerging offshore methodologies, absorb best industry practices from partners and clients, and implement continuous improvements across design workflows.
  • Undertake technical and management assignments as directed by the Engineering Manager to ensure successful offshore asset delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering
  • Good use of Word and Excel.
  • Good use of Navisworks.
  • Able to write Technical Reports.
  • Experience of FPSO projects.
  • Experienced in Marine Packages (7-years).
  • Proven experience of reviewing & commenting on deliverables from vendors.
