What they need

Job Overview

The Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer will lead Mammoth’s mechanical systems design efforts. This role will be responsible for developing mechanical systems designs, supporting structural substantiation efforts, and interfacing with vendors to ensure designs are optimized for both performance and manufacturability. This role also provides hands-on production support and serves as a technical leader for other systems engineers, ensuring designs are implemented accurately and issues are resolved efficiently on the production floor.

The Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer reports directly to the Manager, Electrical/Liaison Systems Engineer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical systems design efforts to support aircraft conversion programs, including ECS, water/waste, oxygen, systems installations, and other mechanical system modifications.
  • Provide design information and technical support to the Stress group to facilitate structural analysis and substantiation of mechanical systems installations.
  • Interface with vendors and suppliers to optimize mechanical component design, manufacturability, and integration into the aircraft.
  • Provide onsite and off-site engineering support during production, addressing mechanical design questions, deviations, and installation issues as they arise.
  • Collaborate with Design, Stress, and Certification teams to ensure mechanical systems integrate properly with overall aircraft structure and systems.
  • Support root-cause analysis and resolution of mechanical system issues identified during production or testing.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other mechanical systems engineers on the team.
  • Review and update mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation as designs evolve.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical input on mechanical system design and certification requirements.
  • Support development of certification test procedures and coordinate testing activities as needed.
  • Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable FAA regulations and industry standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical systems design within the aerospace industry, ideally supporting aircraft modification, conversion, or certification programs.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems, including cargo handling systems, hydraulics, or similar mechanical system integration principles.
  • Experience supporting structural substantiation efforts by providing design information to Stress engineering teams.
  • Experience interfacing with vendors and suppliers to optimize component design and manufacturability.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including providing technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to support production teams and resolve mechanical design issues in real time.
  • Proficiency with mechanical design software (e.g., CATIA or similar tools).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Willingness to provide onsite production support as needed, including travel to production facilities.
  • Experience with Boeing 777 or other Boeing aircraft mechanical systems preferred.
