Lead Software Engineer (C# / .NET) | Investment Management | Central London

Want to lead a small, sharp engineering team where your work is visible right up to the CTO? This is a hands-on leadership role at a long-established global investment firm, and it would suit someone who still wants to write code as well as grow people.

The team and the role

You’ll lead a small team of engineers and report directly to the CTO. The team builds the services and applications that keep trading, risk, compliance and operations running across the firm. Your main partners will be the operations and risk teams, with occasional work alongside the investment team on their own data and tooling.

The wider technology team is small, close-knit and very good at what it does. There’s nowhere to hide, which also means good work gets noticed.

What you’ll be doing

• Designing and building reliable distributed systems in C# and .NET
• Line managing and mentoring your team, setting standards and helping them develop
• Owning delivery across several projects at once
• Improving testing, CI/CD and overall code quality
• Being the team’s technical voice with senior management and the wider business

What we’re looking for

• Strong, recent hands-on C# and .NET experience (this is the one non-negotiable)
• Previous experience in financial services
• Experience line managing or formally mentoring engineers
• The ability to explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical people
• Solid SQL and a good grasp of distributed systems and architectural patterns
• Python is a bonus, not a deal breaker

You might be coming from financial services or from professional services, such as consulting, legal or audit technology. Both are welcome. Career contractors with good tenure across their engagements are also very much in the frame.

Nice to have: Bloomberg APIs, Docker, AWS, and some understanding of markets or the trade lifecycle.

• Office-based in central London: five days during probation, four days a week after that
