About APX
APX Athlete Lab is a sports performance lab for athletes ages 8 and up, across all sports. We test first, then train. Every athlete starts with a Baseline Assessment using four VALD systems: ForceDecks force plates, HumanTrak motion capture, ForceFrame isometric strength, and SmartSpeed timing gates. The results generate a report identifying up to three focus areas. These areas guide small-group speed, agility, and mobility training, followed by a retest every 8–12 weeks to show what’s changed.
The role
You'll run coaching at the facility. That includes running testing sessions, translating data into programming, leading classes, reviewing and publishing athlete reports, and building a coaching team that upholds our standard. You set the bar for how APX trains kids.
What you'll do
- Run Baseline and Retest sessions on the VALD systems, and keep test protocols consistent from coach to coach and session to session.
- Review each athlete's report draft, add your coaching comment, and publish it to families. Explain the results to parents in plain language.
- Write the small-group programming for speed, acceleration, change of direction, landing mechanics, mobility, and strength when an athlete is ready. Base it on measured gaps such as asymmetry, reactive strength (RSI), knee valgus, 0–10m speed, and squat depth.
- Coach classes yourself, keeping coach-to-athlete ratios and intensity right for each age and maturation stage.
- Hire, train and supervise part-time coaches, and audit their sessions so every class feels like APX.
- Serve as the facility's Designated Safeguarding Lead. You'll own incident follow-up, injury status, and return-to-play under California's youth concussion law: written clearance and a graduated return of at least 7 days.
- Help shape the testing battery, the focus rules, and the report wording as the lab grows.
- Represent APX to local clubs, high schools, and parents through talks, team testing days, and referral relationships.
What you bring
- A bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field. A master's is a plus.
- NSCA CSCS (required) or an equivalent credential.
- Experience coaching youth athletes, including leading groups of mixed ages and abilities.
- Hands-on experience with force plates or other performance-testing tech. VALD experience is a strong plus.
- Working knowledge of long-term athlete development (LTAD), growth and maturation (PHV), and why metrics dip during growth spurts.
- Ability to explain a force-time curve to a 12-year-old and their parent.
- Experience leading or mentoring other coaches.
Provided before your first session (California AB 506 and facility policy)
- Criminal background check (LiveScan)
- Child abuse prevention training
- Concussion training
- Heat Illness training
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest training
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification
Why APX
- A new lab with a real data spine behind it, so you'll see what your coaching actually changes.
- You'll build the coaching culture from day one.
