Lead Platform Engineer / Senior Platform Engineer | $220k–$300k + 1–2% Equity

I’m working with an early-stage AI x BioTech startup building the data and reasoning infrastructure that could fundamentally change how biological research is conducted.

You do not need Leadership experience - its just desirable, this could be a perfect opportunity for a Senior Platform Engineer to move into a Lead Platform Engineer position (or a current Lead looking for a better more prospect heavy opportunity)

Scientists currently spend huge amounts of time wrangling fragmented lab data. This team is building the foundational platform that turns that data into a unified, queryable knowledge base; designed for both scientists and AI agents.

As mentioned, they’re now looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to become the senior engineering anchor for the business and take ownership of the architecture, security and scaling of the core platform.

What you’ll be working on:

• Building production data infrastructure, APIs, microservices and ingestion pipelines
• Architecting high-concurrency services in Go alongside Python/FastAPI
• Production knowledge graphs and vector search (TypeDB, Qdrant)
• Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD and observability
• Security, tenant isolation and infrastructure architecture from first principles
• Setting engineering standards and helping build the platform team as the company scales

The ideal background is 5+ years building serious backend infrastructure, distributed systems or data platforms. You don’t need previous BioTech experience ; strong platform/infrastructure engineering is the priority.

Stack: Go, Python, FastAPI, TypeDB, TypeQL, Qdrant, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub Actions, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus.

This is a genuinely high-ownership role. You won’t be inheriting a mature platform and maintaining it... you’ll be helping define what the technical foundation of the company becomes.

Must be able to work onsite in San Francisco 5 days per week.
