Lead Powertrain Engineer - UAV Systems

The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Powertrain Engineer (Hybrid Systems) to design, develop and integrate cutting edge propulsion systems for our next-generation tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). You will join our core team of engineers who value speed, ownership, and first-principles thinking over corporate functioning. In this role, you will lead the architecture, component selection, testing, and optimization of power systems that directly impact flight time, payload capacity, and reliability.

Whether working with advanced internal combustion/heavy fuel-engines, high density battery electric setups, or hybrid systems, you will ensure our UAVs achieve maximum aerodynamic and mechanical efficiency.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: M.Tech in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: 3+ years hands-on experience in powertrain, propulsion, or power electronics design, ideally within the UAV,Robotics, or Automotive EV sectors.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, combustion principles, SFC maps, and DC power distribution. Familiarity with hybrid systems or small ICE is a strong plus.
• Software Proficiency: CAD tools (Solidworks/CATIA) for mechanical integration. Simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, or specialized motor/propeller matching tools).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s (M.S.) focusing on hybrid architectures, powertrains, or energy systems.
• Experience tuning Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) systems & automotive ECUs.
• Solid grasp of high-voltage (HV) systems, electric motor dynamics, power electronics (inverters/converters), and battery energy storage.
• Experience sizing BLDC motors and propellers for UAVs.
• Proficiency in Python for energy balance modelling.
• Experience with Autopilot ecosystems and analyzing log files.
• Alumni Status: Previous core member of a Formula Student (FSAE), Baja SAE, or a DBF (Design/Build/Fly) team is a massive plus.
