Lead Python Developer

We are seeking a Lead Python Software Engineer to join a growing technology team supporting alternative investments and investment operations. This is a highly hands-on technical leadership role focused on modernizing legacy and manual processes, building custom Python applications and APIs, and helping the team mature toward a more engineering-focused delivery model.

The ideal candidate is a strong Python developer who can also serve as a technical lead and mentor. You will help guide architectural decisions, improve development practices, mentor engineers, and partner directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support Python-based applications and APIs
• Build and enhance custom software solutions supporting investment operations
• Modernize legacy and manual processes, including moving existing PowerShell and Excel-driven workflows toward Python-based solutions
• Develop integrations between internal systems, third-party platforms, and enterprise data environments
• Work with technologies including Python, Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow
• Support data movement and integration with centralized data platforms
• Lead technical design discussions and help define engineering standards and best practices
• Explain technical trade-offs, architecture decisions, and solution options to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Mentor and coach a small team of developers, helping improve engineering capability and development practices
• Collaborate with business partners on product roadmaps, modernization initiatives, and technical priorities
• Improve documentation, development processes, code quality, testing, and CI/CD practices

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong hands-on Python development experience
• Experience building backend applications, services, and REST APIs
• Strong understanding of software architecture and application design
• Experience working with relational databases and SQL
• Experience leading technical projects or small development teams
• Demonstrated experience mentoring and coaching software engineers
• Strong Git and modern software development practices
• Experience with testing, code quality, and CI/CD concepts
• Ability to independently take requirements from concept through design, development, and delivery
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with business stakeholders and technical teams
