What they need
BESS Optimization & Trading
Location: Europe (Flexible)
You’ll start with a blank sheet and a clear brief: a multi-market optimizer that stacks revenues and schedules dispatch across day-ahead, intraday and ancillary markets, supported by price curves and a backtesting framework you can trust. You’ll test it in shadow trading against live markets, then harden it for live trading. As the portfolio grows, so does your remit, from building the models to running the trading.
Day to day, you’ll be:
- Designing and owning the optimizer, bid generation and dispatch logic
- Building short- and medium-term price curves across day-ahead, intraday, ancillary and capacity markets
- Backtesting strategies and benchmarking internal and third-party optimizers
- Working with the technology team on algo bidding, forecasting, ETRM and risk tools
- Producing exposure, PnL and performance reporting with the Risk Manager
- Turning market insight into decisions for the investment, asset management and finance teams
- Mentoring junior analysts as the team grows
You’ll work closely with Commercial and Technology.
What we’re looking for
You’ve spent 5+ years in front-office quant, trading analytics, energy trading or asset optimization in short-term European power, and you’ve worked with flexible assets. Direct BESS experience is a strong advantage.
You can model dispatch (LP/MILP), revenue stacking, price forecasts and scenarios, and you’re honest about where models fall short. You write production-grade Python and SQL and have built the pipelines, backtests and dashboards around your models. You know EPEX Spot, Nord Pool, FCR, aFRR, mFRR and capacity mechanisms, and you understand risk and PnL when trading is backed by physical assets.
You hold a degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Maths, Physics, Economics or Finance. Postgraduate study or energy-trading certifications help, as does experience with optimization libraries, cloud tooling, or benchmarking optimizers and route-to-market providers.
Above all, you like building things from scratch and don’t mind priorities shifting along the way.
Other offers great for you!
