About Us
Kanect Recycling is a growing scrap metal recycling company with yards in Ashtabula, OH and Greenville and Linesville, PA. We've built our own software platform that scrap yards use to price material, run transactions, scan seller IDs, and manage inventory — and we're expanding it to more locations. We're part of the Kanect Group, a family of businesses built on "Kanectivity": the idea that businesses, people, and communities grow best together.

The Role
We're looking for a lead developer to head up our cross-platform app (web, iOS, and Android from one codebase) and the API behind it. You'll help set technical direction, ship new features, and work directly with ownership to decide what gets built next. This is a hands-on leadership role — you'll be writing code, not just managing it.

What You'll Work On

• Lead development of our React Native / Expo app across web and mobile
• Build features for pricing, transactions, customer records, cash drawer, and inventory
• Develop our automated pricing tools and the white-label setup for partner yards
• Design and build REST API endpoints (PHP backend)
• Integrate hardware and SDKs like barcode/ID scanning (Scandit)
• Manage the codebase and releases through GitLab

Required

• 3+ years building production apps with React Native (Expo a strong plus)
• Strong JavaScript / TypeScript
• Redux or similar state management
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
• Comfortable working in a shared codebase on Git / GitLab (branches, merge requests)
• Able to lead projects end-to-end and communicate clearly with non-technical owners

Strongly Preferred

• PHP backend experience (Laravel a plus)
• MySQL or PostgreSQL
• Publishing and maintaining apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play

Nice to Have

• TailwindCSS / NativeWind, Gluestack UI
• Highcharts or other charting
• S3-compatible object storage (Linode, AWS)
• GitLab CI/CD pipelines
• Interest in recycling, logistics, or industrial software

Compensation
Hourly, rate negotiable based on experience. This will be a hybrid schedule with on-site work in Ashtabula, OH if possible.
