What they need
Lead Relay Settings Engineer | Remote | Full Time | $140k - $200k
I’m partnering with a rapidly growing engineering consultancy that is expanding its Power Delivery & Renewable Energy capabilities and looking to add a Lead Relay Settings Engineer to its team.
This is a senior technical position for someone who wants to remain close to the engineering while taking greater ownership over technical leadership, QA/QC, mentoring and client delivery .
You’ll support a mixture of utility, substation, solar, wind and BESS projects , leading protection and relay settings work while providing technical guidance to other engineers.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and review protective relay settings for substations, transmission lines and renewable energy projects
- Perform protection coordination and fault analysis
- Develop relay setting calculations, coordination plots, technical reports and setting files
- Review protection schematics, CT/PT circuits, relay logic and single-line diagrams
- Work with protection functions including 21, POTT, DCB, 50/51, 67, 87, 27/59, 81 and 50BF
- Work with relays from SEL, Siemens, ABB/Hitachi, GE or similar manufacturers
- Provide technical leadership and QA/QC across project deliverables
- Mentor and review the work of junior Relay/Protection Engineers
- Work directly with clients and present technical solutions
- Support multiple projects simultaneously across geographically distributed engineering teams
What they're looking for
Ideally, you'll have 8+ years of protection/relay settings experience , with exposure to PV, BESS, wind, substations, collector systems and/or data centers . Previous engineering consulting experience is particularly attractive.
You'll also need:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Strong relay settings and protection coordination experience
- Power-system fault analysis experience
- Experience with ETAP, SKM and/or ASPEN
- Familiarity with NERC and major ISO/RTO environments such as PJM, ERCOT and MISO
- Strong communication and client-facing capabilities
This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering group where you'll have genuine influence over how the protection function develops, rather than simply being another engineer within a large established department.
