Lead Software Engineer

About The Role At Simplyhealth, we're on a mission to improve access to healthcare for all in the UK. As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in shaping and delivering the technology that supports our Dental Capitation platforms, helping us build reliable, scalable and modern digital solutions.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll lead the day-to-day engineering activity of a squad while continuing to contribute to software development. Working closely with your Engineering Manager, Architects, Product Managers and Delivery Managers, you'll guide technical decisions, coach engineers and ensure your team delivers high-quality solutions that solve the right problems in the right way.

You'll have the opportunity to influence engineering practices, contribute to architectural direction and help create an environment where engineers can do their best work. Key Responsibilities Include Leading and coaching a team of software engineers.

Providing technical leadership and guidance across your squad.

Remaining hands-on with software development and technical delivery.

Balancing project delivery, business-as-usual priorities and technical improvements.

Driving quality engineering practices and secure software development principles.

Supporting modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD and Git-based workflows.

Championing agile ways of working such as Scrum and Kanban.

Managing releases and engaging with key stakeholders across the business.

Contributing to technical architecture, standards and engineering best practice.

Staying up to date with emerging technologies, tools and methodologies.

About You We're looking for a strong technical leader who enjoys developing people as much as developing software. You'll be somebody who can combine technical expertise with collaboration, coaching and a passion for continuous improvement.

To Be Successful In This Role, You'll Have Proven experience leading or mentoring software engineering teams.

Current or recent hands-on software engineering experience.

Strong technical capability across at least two of the following: C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript or Python.

Experience working with modern development tools and workflows, including CI/CD, GitFlow and GitHub.

Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and engineering best practices.

Experience designing and developing microservices and REST APIs.

Experience working with stakeholders across engineering and business teams.

A passion for coaching, mentoring and developing other engineers.

Experience using collaboration and delivery tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Most importantly, you'll be passionate about creating great software, improving engineering practices and helping Ad Tuner your team deliver exceptional results.
