Oliver Bernard have partnered with a multinational organisation that has built an autonomous software engineering function operating with the culture and pace of a scale-up.

Over the last few years, the engineering team has grown significantly and now consists of multiple cross-functional product squads delivering innovative digital products used at scale. They are looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to help shape technical strategy, mentor and management a team of engineers, whilst remaining hands-on with complex software delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading the design and development of scalable backend services and APIs.
• Setting technical direction across product teams.
• Driving architectural decisions, engineering standards, and platform improvements.
• Mentoring and line managing around 3-5 engineers while supporting their technical and career growth.
• Partnering closely with Product and Delivery teams from discovery through to production.
• Championing engineering best practices, system reliability, and continuous improvement.

Tech Environment

You'll work across a modern cloud-native ecosystem including:

• Python
• FastAPI / Flask
• TypeScript / JavaScript
• React / Angular
• PostgreSQL
• Docker & Kubernetes
• Public Cloud (AWS, Azure or GCP experience welcomed)
• Modern CI/CD tooling

We're Looking For

• 7+ years working in software development with a strong backend focus, ideally in Python.
• Experience designing and scaling distributed systems and production APIs.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture, containerisation and modern engineering practices.
• Previous technical leadership experience, including mentoring and managing engineers.
• Ability to balance technical excellence with product and business objectives.
• Strong stakeholder management experience
• Comfortable influencing architecture and engineering direction across multiple teams.
