Senior Software Engineering Lead

Location: Herndon, Virginia

Work Schedule: 9/80 flexible arrangement with every other Friday off

A prominent defense technology firm is seeking a high level Software Engineering Lead to oversee critical mission initiatives and system modernization projects. This role involves driving the entire development lifecycle and providing high level technical direction for national security solutions across multiple domains including space, cyber, and sea.

Core Responsibilities

• Act as a technical authority and mentor for engineering teams
• Utilize modern tools and AI assistance to improve design and delivery speed
• Oversee software architecture and complex system design
• Manage products from initial requirements through to deployment and long term sustainment
• Apply Agile methodologies to maintain high quality engineering standards

Required Background

• A Bachelor degree with at least 9 years of professional experience, or a Master degree with 7 years of experience, or 13 years of total experience in lieu of a degree
• Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance is mandatory
• Proven track record in technical leadership and project ownership
• Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle

Preferred Technical Skills

• Ten or more years of professional software engineering experience
• Expertise in Java, C++, Java Spring Boot, and REST API development
• Proficiency in Linux environments and multi threaded application development
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
• Expertise in containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with AWS GovCloud or hybrid cloud deployments
• Familiarity with DevSecOps and automated testing frameworks
• Background in SATCOM, networking, or telecommunications within a defense context
• Ability to design and integrate databases for large scale enterprise applications

Compensation and Benefits

• The anticipated salary range for this position is between 135,000 and 250,500 dollars annually, depending on experience and location. The client provides a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, 401k matching, educational assistance, parental leave, and paid time off.
