What they need

As a Lead Software Engineer at JP Morgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Banking:  Test Integration and Implementation Payments Technology Team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives. You play a key role in ensuring end-to-end business flow testing is comprehensive, efficient, and focused on quality and coverage in advance of production implementation of external client-facing software.

Job responsibilities

  • Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
  • Drive the build of end-to-end test automation for the Digital Onboarding team, covering new-to-bank and existing-to-bank clients onboarding to products aligned with multiple client-facing channels.
  • Lead a team of software engineers / SDETs (Software Development Engineer in Test) to deliver, execute, validate, and trouble-shoot in support of software release cycles.
  • Develop secure and high-quality testing code; review and debug code written by others.
  • Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes — including AI-assisted code review, refactoring, test strategy acceleration, and incident and root-cause analysis support.
  • Establish consistent validation standards encompassing secure coding, peer review, and automated testing, while promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
  • Lead evaluation sessions with internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented review of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture.
  • Manage stakeholders through executive communication and presentations.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Python, Java, and Playwright.
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools for coding, code review, test acceleration, and troubleshooting, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe and compliant adoption within delivery practices.
  • Proficiency across all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as continuous integration and continuous delivery, application resiliency, and security.
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its information technology systems.
  • Practical cloud-native experience.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating resourcefulness and the ability to navigate a large organization.
  • Experience managing senior stakeholders and a team of automation testers, with strong influence and negotiation skills and a willingness to partner on automation across organizational boundaries.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills include:

  • Payments business knowledge including client-facing channels
  • Strong test automation experience, in either QA or UAT
