We are looking for an experienced Substation Control Systems Engineer to take technical ownership of control system engineering across our MV and HV substation projects.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will act as the technical authority for our substation control systems, leading the system-level design of MV control solutions across, protection system functions, RTU/IED architectures, OT networks and cybersecurity.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role where you’ll architect solutions, guide specialist engineers and integrators, and ensure designs are practical, compliant and delivered successfully through to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design of MV/HV substation automation and control systems.
• Develop functional design specifications, control logic, interlocking and sequencing functions.
• Provide technical direction to engineers, programmers, integrators and technicians.
• Direct product and function selection to meet protection designs, relay requirements and protection coordination.
• Engage, direct and review specialist technical resources across protection, IEC 61850, cybersecurity and OT networking.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, DNSP and Supply Authority requirements.
• Produce design documentation, functional specifications and commissioning records.
• Implementation of SCADA platforms, servers and necessary HMI graphics.
• Oversee testing and commissioning activities including FAT and SAT.
• Collaborate with sales, estimating, clients and consultants to ensure accurate solution budgets and suitability.

About You

To be successful, you will have:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years’ experience in electrical and control systems engineering.
• Current RPEQ registration – Electrical, with the ability to certify designs.
• Demonstrated MV/HV substation control systems experience from design through to commissioning.
• Strong understanding of protection philosophy, relay systems and control system architecture.
• Strong stakeholder management and technical communication skills.
• A practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to lead complex technical outcomes.

Experience with IEC 61850, Schneider EPO/EPAS or Ignition SCADA, Schneider/ABB/Siemens protection relay platforms & RTU systems will be highly necessary.
