Lead Supplier Quality Engineer (Electronics)

About the role

The Lead Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for leading supplier quality performance across electronic commodities, including PCBs, PCBAs, flex circuits and electronic components. This role drives supplier quality improvement, resolves quality issues, leads corrective actions and acts as a key quality liaison between suppliers in Asia and stakeholders in Australia, requiring strong technical expertise, independent decision making and stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Supplier Quality Management

• Own day-to-day supplier quality performance for PCB, PCBA, flex circuit, and electronic component suppliers.
• Lead the resolution of supplier quality issues, including containment, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, effectiveness verification, and timely closure.
• Coordinate supplier failure analysis activities with internal engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams, as well as external suppliers.

Supplier Development and Continuous Improvement

• Drive supplier quality development initiatives to improve process capability, product quality, yield, and overall cost of poor quality.
• Support the development of supplier quality systems, procedures, documentation, and technical capability.
• Work with suppliers to strengthen process controls, defect detection and prevention, and long-term manufacturing robustness.
• Lead structured improvement activities using appropriate quality tools and data-driven methods.

New Supplier / New Part Qualification

• Support supplier qualification, source changes, and new part introduction through risk assessment, validation, and production readiness activities.
• Provide supplier quality input to supplier selection, sourcing decisions, technical reviews, and supplier business reviews.

Supplier Performance Monitoring

• Establish, maintain, analyze, and improve supplier quality KPIs on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Report supplier performance, key trends, risks, and recovery actions to management and cross-functional stakeholders.

Audits, Compliance, and Change Control

• Conduct supplier audits and assessments covering quality systems, manufacturing processes, inspection and test controls, process controls, and overall capability.
• Verify supplier compliance with company requirements and relevant industry standards, including applicable ISO and IPC standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with design, quality, procurement, commodity management, and manufacturing teams to support robust production processes and supplier performance.
• Partner with production sites, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement across the supply base.
• Operate effectively within an international, cross-functional environment spanning Australia, Korea, China, and Thailand.

Essentials

• Bachelor’s degree of Engineering with related major such as Electronics, Mechatronics or Manufacturing engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or quality engineering within the electronics manufacturing industry.
• Demonstrated experience with PCB, PCBA, flex circuit, and electronic component suppliers.
• Strong technical judgement and problem-solving ability.
• Able to work independently with a high level of ownership and limited day-to-day supervision.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on a regular basis, primarily within Asia. Occasional travel to Australia.
