Lead Support Group Coordinator

Parkinson's Queensland | South East Queensland

Part-time | 3 days per week | Flexible working arrangements

Make meaningful connections. Empower communities. See the difference you make.

Are you passionate about people, community connection and making a genuine difference?

Parkinson's Queensland is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Lead Support Group Coordinator to help strengthen and grow our statewide network of volunteer-led support groups.

This is more than a coordination role. It's an opportunity to build meaningful relationships, empower passionate volunteers and see firsthand the positive impact your work has on people living with Parkinson's, their families and carers.

Why join Parkinson's Queensland?

We believe meaningful work should also be rewarding, supportive and enjoyable.

What you'll love about working with us:

  • Flexible working arrangements – Enjoy the flexibility of a part-time role, working three days per week, with arrangements that support work-life balance.
  • A great team culture – Be part of a welcoming, collaborative and supportive team that genuinely cares about the work we do and the people we support.
  • Meaningful community connections – Build relationships with inspiring volunteers, support group coordinators and communities throughout Queensland.
  • See your impact firsthand – Experience the satisfaction of knowing your work is helping people feel connected, informed and supported.
  • Variety and independence – Enjoy a diverse role combining community engagement, relationship building, leadership and program development.
  • Make a lasting difference – Help shape and strengthen a statewide network that provides vital connections for Queenslanders affected by Parkinson's.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you'll lead the coordination, development and ongoing support of Parkinson's Queensland's statewide network of volunteer-led support groups.

You'll be the key connection between Parkinson's Queensland and our dedicated volunteer coordinators, helping them feel confident, valued and equipped to support their local communities.

This is a varied and rewarding leadership role where no two days are quite the same. You'll work with people, build relationships, develop volunteers and help create stronger, more connected communities.

You'll also supervise the Remote Support Group Administrator.

What you'll be doing

  • Building strong, positive relationships with support group coordinators and volunteers across Queensland.
  • Supporting, mentoring and empowering volunteers to lead successful community groups.
  • Coordinating training, education, meetings and networking opportunities.
  • Visiting support groups and participating in community activities and events.
  • Recognising and celebrating the contributions of our volunteers.
  • Supporting the development of new support groups and strengthening existing ones.
  • Ensuring support groups operate safely and consistently with organisational policies, governance and compliance requirements.
  • Providing practical, non-clinical information, guidance and referrals.
  • Managing support group records, reporting, risk and operational requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with the CEO and team to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.

About you

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people, builds relationships naturally and takes pride in making things happen.

You'll be approachable, organised, proactive and confident working both independently and as part of a team.

You'll bring:

  • Experience coordinating volunteers, community groups or peer support networks.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Experience facilitating training, meetings or community education.
  • An understanding of governance, policies, compliance and risk management.
  • Knowledge of health, disability, aged care and carer support systems, including the NDIS, My Aged Care and Carer Gateway.
  • Experience supervising staff and coordinating multiple priorities.
  • Confidence using digital systems, CRM platforms and online meeting tools.
  • Sensitivity, discretion and sound judgement when supporting people living with health conditions and their families.

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience in the not-for-profit or community services sector.
  • A background in social work, nursing, allied health or adult education.
  • Experience supporting people living with Parkinson's or other neurological conditions.
  • Knowledge of regional Queensland communities.

Position details

  • Employment: Part-time, 0.6 FTE (3 days per week).
  • Location: South East Queensland.
  • Working arrangements: Flexible working arrangements.
  • Travel: Regular travel throughout Queensland, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Hours: Some early morning, evening or weekend commitments may be required for support group meetings and community events.

Pre-employment checks: Parkinson's Queensland will arrange and cover the cost of the required National Police Check for the successful applicant. A current driver's licence is required, along with any additional screening required under funding agreements.

Be part of something meaningful

At Parkinson's Queensland, you'll be part of a team that values connection, collaboration and making a difference.

You'll have the opportunity to work alongside passionate people, develop strong community relationships and contribute to something that truly matters.

If you're looking for a flexible, rewarding role where you can connect with people and see the impact of your work, we'd love to hear from you.
