ABOUT IMMERSIVE GAMEBOX

Immersive Gamebox (IGB) is a fast-scaling location-based entertainment company redefining how people play together in the real world. We create immersive, social gaming experiences powered by proprietary technology and world-class content, partnering with major studios like Netflix, Sony and Paramount to bring globally loved IP to life.

With 35+ locations across the UK, US and internationally (and 100+ more opening by the end of 2027), 2M+ players and backing from tier-1 investors, our ambition is to become the world's leading immersive entertainment platform, with 500+ locations globally and experiences across film, TV, sport and music.

To date, we have:

  • Raised $60m+ from top investors across the UK & US

  • Welcomed over 2M players with 60,000+ 5★ reviews (average 4.9/5)

  • Launched major IP titles including Squid Game, Batman, Ghostbusters and Angry Birds, with more in the pipeline

THE ROLE

For six years we've done one thing very well: launch big games. Squid Game, Batman, Ghostbusters and more, played by millions of people in our rooms. What we've never done is go back and make the games already live even better.

That's the opportunity. We want to turn a great one-off night out into something people come back to again and again, with player profiles that level up across visits and real engagement. No one else has a platform like ours, with groups playing in our rooms every day. You'll have a lot of freedom to decide what changes, and the scale to see the impact quickly.

We're hiring a Lead Unity Developer to be our most senior in-house engineer and one half of a two-person team whose whole job is player experience. You'll work with our Head of Studio & Player Experience and our Experience Designer to monitor player data, reviews and in-person sessions, then turn what you learn into changes, from fixes to new content such as 10-minute games.

Alongside our tech team, you'll own our SDK, the shared Unity library every IGB game is built on, and lead technical improvements across our existing game library. You'll also review code and give technical guidance across ongoing projects.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN 12 MONTHS

  • Customer satisfaction and return rate trending up on the games you've touched

  • New short-format games live in venues

  • The first player profiles and progression systems live, giving groups a reason to come back

  • An SDK that is documented, stable and faster to build on, and owned by you

  • Monthly releases shipping across the library without disrupting live venues

  • Clear technical standards and code review in place across studio projects

WHERE THIS SITS

Reports to the Head of Studio & Player Experience, with technical reporting into our tech leadership, and works day to day with our Experience Designer. You'll also support the sub-teams working on new games, but you won't take on launch production or agency management.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Own the SDK: design, development and maintenance

  • Improve the live library: lead technical improvements across our existing games

  • Fix what players feel: turn player data, reviews and session feedback into shipped fixes

  • Ship monthly: plan and deliver regular releases across the library

  • Build new content: help create short-format games such as 10-minute experiences

  • Build for return visits: implement player profiles, levels and progression that give groups a reason to come back

  • Raise the bar: review code and give technical guidance across ongoing projects

  • Move fast with AI: use AI-assisted development tools to speed up work, and spot gaps in existing and new code

ABOUT YOU

  • You care about how players behave as much as you care about clean code

  • You've worked where retention numbers mattered, ideally in mobile, live-ops or arcade games

  • You're happy in a small team and care how your work lands with real players, in the data or in the room

  • You're comfortable with AI-assisted development

  • You take ownership from problem to shipped fix

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong Unity and C#, with 5+ years' professional experience and shipped titles

  • Analytics or telemetry: instrumenting games and acting on the data

  • Experience leading technical work: architecture, code review and guiding other developers

  • Experience building or maintaining shared code, frameworks or tools used across several projects

  • Right to work in the UK

NICE TO HAVE

  • Location-based entertainment, VR/AR, installations or hardware-integrated projects

  • Local multiplayer experiences

WHY JOIN US?

  • Real players, every day: everything you ship goes into rooms full of players, and you can go and watch

  • Freedom and impact: our live games have never been revisited, so you'll help decide what changes first and see results within weeks

  • Ownership: the platform behind every IGB game is yours to shape

  • Focus: a permanent role on player experience, not tied to launch deadlines

  • Salary: £55–65k (depending on experience)

  • Unlimited holiday

  • Workplace pension

  • Hybrid working: our Southbank office plus time in our venues

INTERVIEW PROCESS

  1. 30-min screening call
    1. 30-min second stage
    1. Technical test and final stage: a real gameplay note on one of our games. You build the fix, then walk us through it on-site and visit a venue with the team

HOW TO APPLY

Click "Apply" to complete our short application form with your CV and a link to your GitHub, code samples or shipped projects. We're not a typical games company, so we're open to left-field profiles. If you think you could bring something to this role, even without ticking every box, we'd love to hear from you.

Other offers great for you!
