Leading Hand

About the role

As Workshop Leading Hand, you will play a key role in coordinating day-to-day workshop activities, supporting technicians, maintaining high-quality workmanship, and ensuring jobs are completed safely and on schedule. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong mechanical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to lead a team while keeping workshop operations running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support the workshop team on a day-to-day basis
• Allocate and coordinate workshop jobs and priorities
• Carry out servicing, repairs, PDI, maintenance and diagnostics
• Provide technical guidance and support to workshop staff
• Ensure work is completed to a high standard and within required timeframes
• Identify and resolve mechanical and technical issues
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop
• Ensure workplace health and safety procedures are followed
• Assist with parts, job planning and workshop scheduling
• Communicate effectively with management, technicians and customers

About you

• Has proven experience in a workshop or mechanical environment
• Has strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
• Has previous experience leading or supervising a team
• Is organised, reliable and able to prioritise competing jobs
• Takes pride in quality workmanship
• Has a strong focus on safety
• Has excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Can work independently while also being a team player
• Holds a relevant trade qualification or equivalent experience
