Leading Hand Formwork Carpenter

About the role

A.G.A Construction Ltd is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Formwork Carpenter to join our team in Auckland CBD. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in our building and construction operations. As a Leading Hand Formwork Carpenter, you will be responsible for overseeing formwork activities on site, ensuring quality craftsmanship, safety compliance, and the timely completion of projects. This leadership position is essential to maintaining our reputation for excellence in the building trades and directly impacts the success of our construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate formwork teams on construction sites, ensuring all work meets project specifications and quality standards
• Prepare and install formwork systems for concrete structures, including walls, floors, columns and beams
• Manage daily work schedules, resource allocation and task assignments for formwork operations
• Conduct tool box meetings and safety briefings to ensure all team members understand site safety requirements and procedures
• Inspect formwork installations to verify accuracy, alignment and structural integrity before concrete pouring
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, material usage and labour hours
• Communicate effectively with project management, site supervisors and other trades to coordinate activities and resolve issues
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies on all sites
• Identify training needs within the team and mentor junior carpenters to develop their skills
• Participate in toolbox talks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives on site

What we're looking for

• Minimum 5+ years' experience in formwork carpentry within the building and construction industry

• Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role on construction sites

• Strong knowledge of formwork systems, timber construction and concrete requirements

• Competency in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings

• Current First Aid certification and site-specific safety certifications as required

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and motivate team members

• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

• Commitment to health and safety best practices and a proven safety record

• Flexibility to work on various construction sites across Auckland CBD and surrounding areas

• Experience with site coordination software or digital reporting tools is desirable
