For a fast-growing smart energy innovator based in the Randstad area, we are looking for an experienced Lead / Senior Hardware Engineer to join the hardware development team.
In this role, you will take ownership of hardware architecture, high-volume PCB design, and product compliance for smart IoT devices used by over one million households across Europe.
Do you have 5+ years of hardware engineering experience, strong expertise with Espressif/ESP32 microcontrollers, PCB design, EMC/CE certification, and a passion for technical leadership or team coaching? Then this is the ideal next step!
The Role:
Our client creates affordable energy monitoring and storage devices that help households optimize power usage. You will guide architectural choices from initial concept through to mass production, partner with contract manufacturing partners, enforce quality standards, and mentor fellow engineers across the department.
Responsibilities:
- Define hardware architecture, schematics, and multi-layer PCB layouts for new IoT products.
- Optimize RF/Wi-Fi design, power management, and antenna performance around Espressif (ESP32) microcontrollers.
- Lead production introduction with contract manufacturers (CMs/ODMs), managing DFM/DFT, test setups, and yield optimization.
- Own EMC/EMI troubleshooting and CE/RED compliance certification processes.
- Coach hardware engineers, set quality standards, and coordinate capacity and technical planning.
Profile:
- HBO/WO degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or related field.
- 5+ years of professional hardware development experience (consumer electronics or IoT preferred).
- Proven track record in PCB design (Altium/KiCad), microcontrollers (ESP32), and RF integration.
- Practical experience with EMC testing, CE/RED compliance, and mass production setups.
- Conversational Dutch (B1+) and fluent English communication skills.
- Living within reasonable commuting distance of the South Holland / Randstad region with access to personal transport.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience in people management or technical team leadership.
- Firmware interfacing skills in C/C++.
Terms & Benefits:
- 32 to 40 hours per week with permanent contract prospects.
- Up to €84,240 gross annual salary (based on role tier and experience, up to €6,500 gross/month).
- Profit-sharing scheme, pension plan, and 8% holiday allowance.
- Travel allowance, training budget, laptop, and HomeWizard products for home testing.
- Modern office perks: daily team lunches, leisure facilities, snacks, and regular social events.
