What they need

DSV Northstar Ltd. is seeking a dependable, organized, and motivated Leafcutter Bee Technical Labourer to take a leadership role in our leafcutter bee operations.

This position will be responsible for coordinating and performing day-to-day leafcutter bee activities, organizing the bee warehouse, training staff, monitoring bee incubation, coordinating field setup and takedown, and assisting with the marketing and pricing of DSV Northstar leafcutter bees.

During periods when leafcutter bee duties are less demanding, this position will also assist with general seed warehouse operations.

Key Responsibilities: Leafcutter Bee Operations

  • Take a leadership role in DSV Northstar’s leafcutter bee operations, helping organize and coordinate daily and seasonal bee activities.
  • Organize and maintain the bee warehouse, ensuring bees, equipment, supplies, and work areas are properly organized and maintained.
  • Pick up and deliver leafcutter bees, nests, shelters, and related equipment as required.
  • Incubate leafcutter bees and regularly monitor the incubation process, ensuring appropriate handling and record keeping.
  • Train and support staff so they are able to safely and effectively perform all required leafcutter bee duties.
  • Organize and assist with the setup and takedown of bee nests and shelters.
  • Coordinate bee-related field activities and ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available when needed.
  • Sample, cut, and value leafcutter bees as required.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to bee inventory, incubation, sampling, valuation, deliveries, and other bee activities.
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and industry events when requested.
  • Assist Brett Wilson with the overall marketing and promotion of DSV Northstar leafcutter bees.
  • Assist with establishing and reviewing leafcutter bee settlement prices.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, producers, employees, and other industry contacts.

Seed Warehouse Duties

As time allows and based on seasonal requirements, assist with general seed warehouse duties, including:

  • Load and unload seed and other products.
  • Blend seed according to work requirements.
  • Bag, label, stack, and organize seed.
  • Pick and prepare seed orders for shipment.
  • Assist with seed deliveries and other pickups as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse.
  • Keep the warehouse office and work areas clean and presentable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with leafcutter bees, agriculture, seed production, pollination, or warehouse operations considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to take initiative and provide leadership and direction to other staff.
  • The ability to train employees and clearly communicate work procedures and expectations.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when monitoring, sampling, and valuing bees.
  • Good record-keeping and basic computer skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • A reliable, responsible, and safety-conscious approach to work.
  • The ability to perform physical duties associated with bee and seed warehouse operations.
  • The flexibility to work additional or irregular hours when required during peak agricultural seasons.
  • A valid driver’s licence and ability to safely operate company vehicles as required.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is willing to take ownership and provide leadership within DSV Northstar’s leafcutter bee operations. The successful candidate should be hands-on, organized, dependable, and comfortable coordinating people, equipment, bees, warehouse activities, and seasonal priorities.
