Learning Assistant / Teacher Aide

Mt Richmond Specialist School is a passionate community dedicated to meeting the unique needs of our ākonga aged from 5 to 21 years old.  We are a specialist school with 200+ ākonga located across 9 school sites in South Auckland.  Our base school is located in Otahuhu with satellite classes based in the Papatoetoe /Otara / Flat Bush / Ormiston areas.

We are seeking suitable candidates to support the unique physical and intellectual needs of our ākonga.  Applicants will be required to work with a diverse range of students including non-verbal, complex physical, and health needs.

The successful applicant must have:

• a full driver's license and the ability to travel to all of the school’s locations, (essential)
• a compassionate approach to understanding and responding to students’ unique needs and challenges
• the skills to be an effective team member in the classroom
• the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, teachers, and parents
• skills in positive reinforcement and behaviour techniques to promote positive behaviour support
• familiarity with various tools and technology that can help students learn more effectively
• the ability to support all learning opportunities for students including programmes outside the classroom
• an awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in schools
• Availability to attend after school and holidays meetings / trainings
• NZ citizenship or a valid NZ work visa

Available positions: Learning Assistant/Teacher Aide - Permanent and Casual Relievers. Hours of work are currently 27.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (term time only). Applicants must be available to work either 8.30am - 2.30pm or 9.00am - 3.00pm to support students throughout the school day. Applicants must have reliable transport so they can work at Base or Satellite classes as needed on a daily basis. Attendance at a fortnightly team meeting is required for permanent employees.

Remuneration/pay for this position will be as per the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement.
