Learning Designer (10016)

Sunway University is seeking a detail-oriented Learning Designer to support the development and delivery of engaging online and blended learning experiences for Sunway University Online programmes.

Job Description

1.       Learning & Instructional Design

• Design and develop engaging online and blended learning experiences using instructional design approaches and relevant learning theories.
• Align learning outcomes, assessments, activities and learning content to support effective learner experiences and workload.
• Develop storyboards, scripts and content outlines to guide digital and multimedia development.

2.       LMS & Digital Course Development

• Build, publish and maintain online courses across Canvas, Blackboard Ultra and OpenLearning, ensuring compliance with approved templates, standards and accessibility requirements.
• Develop interactive learning activities using tools such as H5P, Articulate Rise and Articulate Storyline, and integrate multimedia and digital components.
• Troubleshoot LMS-related issues involving access, enrolment, content, submissions, grading and navigation, escalating technical issues where required.

3.       Multimedia Production & Educational Recording

• Plan and coordinate educational recording sessions, including scripts, schedules, locations and production requirements.
• Operate approved recording equipment and provide guidance to presenters on recording preparation, delivery and audio-visual quality.
• Edit and enhance educational video and audio content, including transcription, captioning, graphics.
• Ensure recorded content meets technical, editorial, accessibility and institutional quality standards.

4.       Stakeholder Collaboration & User Support

• Work closely with academics to translate subject-matter expertise into effective online and blended learning content and activities.
• Provide LMS guidance and user support to lecturers, students and relevant stakeholders.
• Collaborate with IT, quality assurance, student support, registry, library, marketing and external platform providers on LMS and digital learning initiatives.

5.       Enrolment, Records and Quality Support

• Manage assigned course development and LMS projects, including timelines, deliverables and documentation.
• Maintain accurate documentation relating to course versions, configurations, testing, incidents, production assets and resolutions.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews and use learner feedback, analytics and support trends to identify areas for improvement.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of learning design practices, LMS governance, templates, workflows and digital learning services.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Education, Information Systems, or a related field; a relevant Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Hands-on experience administering Learning Management Systems (LMS), with practical experience in Canvas, Blackboard Ultra and OpenLearning, including course setup, content publishing, assessment configuration, reporting and troubleshooting.
• Experience in designing and developing online and/or blended learning courses, preferably in higher education.
• Proficiency in digital authoring tools such as H5P, Articulate Rise and/or Articulate Storyline.
• Knowledge of appropriate applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning design, content development, assessment, accessibility, recording and post-production.
• Ability to support virtual sessions, manage digital records and perform basic troubleshooting.
• Strong organisational and communication skills, with good attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and follow up effectively.
