Join Our Dedicated Team and Make a Meaningful Difference

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and helping them flourish? At Riverside Community Special School, we are looking for a motivated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and well-being of children with moderate and severe learning difficulties, in a school that truly values teamwork, respect, and progress.

About Riverside Community Special School

Riverside is a vibrant special school serving 149 pupils, all with SEND. We offer a nurturing environment where every child is supported to manage their differences and thrive as individuals. Our school community is built on strong values:

  • Wellbeing is at the heart of all we do
  • We deliver a meaningful curriculum focused on communication and language skills
  • We celebrate every achievement, big or small

With spacious grounds, Riverside is a place of opportunity and growth — for both pupils and staff.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant at Riverside, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to support pupils’ social and academic development. Your role will be vital in helping children stay engaged, complete activities, and overcome barriers to learning. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Working independently with individuals or small groups to deliver lesson plans and support learning goals
  • Managing behaviour and supporting children with complex needs with sensitivity and confidence
  • Taking on specialist responsibilities and mentoring other LSAs as needed
  • Contributing to assessment and monitoring pupil progress
  • Supporting the wider school community, including liaising with parents and external professionals

This role offers the chance to develop your expertise in a specialist setting and to be part of a team dedicated to making a real difference.

About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic and caring individual who:

  • Shows empathy and understanding towards children with diverse needs
  • Is confident working independently and taking initiative within a supportive team
  • Communicates effectively with children, colleagues, and families
  • Has a calm, patient approach to behaviour management and challenging situations
  • Is committed to professional growth and can share expertise with others
  • Holds or is willing to work towards relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2

Your dedication will help our pupils flourish, and your input will be valued as part of a motivated, forward-thinking school community.

What We Offer

At Riverside, you will find:

  • A supportive and inclusive working environment
  • Opportunities for professional development and specialist training
  • The chance to work in a school that values your contribution and wellbeing
  • The satisfaction of making a genuine difference in the lives of children and families

If you are ready to join a passionate team and help our children flourish with Riverside, we would love to hear from you.

We reserve the right to close vacancies early if we receive applications that meet the criteria. We therefore strongly advise you to submit your application as soon as possible as we may invite candidates to interview before the closing date.

. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment..
