Mainstream Primary School Learning Support Assistant

Duties & Responsibilities:

Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) are full-time members of the Primary School Learning Support Team. Their role is to work closely with class teachers, learning support specialists, and therapists to ensure that each child’s learning needs are met, enabling them to access the mainstream curriculum and participate fully in classroom life.

LSAs support the development and delivery of individualized strategies in line with each child’s learning plan, and help create an inclusive, nurturing learning environment that promotes independence, confidence, and success.

This is a hands-on and rewarding role that includes:

  • Building strong, caring relationships with children
  • Supporting class teachers in delivering lessons that meet individual student needs
  • Assisting with adapting materials and differentiating tasks
  • Promoting engagement and positive behaviour in the classroom and playground
  • Supporting students' learning during class, in small groups, and 1:1 settings
  • Collaborating with specialist staff to monitor progress and refine strategies
  • Helping facilitate communication between home and school when needed
  • Accompanying students during school trips, special events, and activities across the school day
  • Contributing to whole-school events and duties as directed by the Head of Phase or School Leadership

Qualifications & Profile:

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be punctual, reliable, and fully engaged throughout the school day
  • Use a range of strategies to support children with a variety of learning needs
  • Communicate clearly with both students and staff
  • Adapt tasks, instructions, and classroom resources to support learning
  • Encourage students to develop independence and confidence
  • Work positively as part of a collaborative team
  • Maintain professional communication with families and staff
  • Be sensitive to children’s personal and social needs
  • Be proactive, nurturing, and ready to grow through ongoing professional development

This is an energetic and meaningful role that requires patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to inclusion. It’s ideal for someone passionate about supporting children in reaching their full potential in a warm, inclusive school community.
