What they need

Every student learns differently. Are you the person who makes sure no one gets left behind??

If you are a skilled educator with a gift for understanding how individual students think, struggle, and succeed, and you want to work in a school that genuinely champions inclusion, this role is for you.

ABOUT THE BUSY SCHOOL

The BUSY School Calgary is a newly approved Charter School opening in August 2026, created to re-engage young people in Grades 10 to 12 who have stepped away from traditional education. We combine a high school diploma pathway with real-world vocational training, giving students the skills, confidence, and connections they need to launch into meaningful careers. We are mission-driven, relationship-first, and genuinely different.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Learning Support Teacher, you will be a critical partner to every classroom teacher on our team. You will lead the development and review of Individual Learning Plans, identify students with learning support needs, coordinate educational adjustments, and work alongside our wellbeing and curriculum teams to ensure every student can access and succeed in their education. You will also carry a teaching load, keeping you directly connected to students and the classroom experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop, review, and oversee Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for students with identified learning needs
  • Advise and mentor teachers on inclusive strategies, educational adjustments, and differentiated resources
  • Identify students requiring learning support through standardised assessment and consultation with staff, families, and external providers
  • Partner with teachers and Teacher Aides to deliver small group instruction and individualised support
  • Collaborate with the wellbeing team to promote the holistic progress of individual students
  • Support access arrangements and reasonable adjustments during assessment periods
  • Maintain the campus learning support register and attend relevant meetings with parents, carers, and staff
  • Deliver classroom teaching duties as negotiated with the Principal

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • A bachelor's degree in education or equivalent qualification for secondary teaching
  • Qualifications or experience in special education, inclusive education, or a related field (a genuine willingness to develop in this area will also be considered)
  • Proven experience developing Individual Learning Plans or equivalent learning adjustment frameworks
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed pedagogy, or a commitment to developing this practice
  • Experience working with disengaged youth (highly desirable)
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills
  • A calm, considered approach and the ability to manage competing priorities

WHY JOIN US

  • Be part of building something brand new from the ground up
  • Work alongside a passionate team united by a shared mission
  • Make a tangible difference in the lives of young Calgarians
  • Live our values every day: Inclusive, Excellent, Resilient, Honest, and Innovative
  • Contribute to a school model that is changing what education can look like

All applicants must be able to meet Child Safety requirements, including regular police vetting.
