What they need
Learning Support Team Leader
Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
Position: Specialist Education Provision
About the Setting
We are working with a specialist education provision that supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism. The setting provides a structured, nurturing and supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, build positive relationships and achieve their potential both academically and personally.
With a strong sense of community and a focus on individual development, the provision aims to help every young person feel safe, understood and equipped with the skills they need to succeed.
About the Role
Are you an experienced education professional looking for a leadership opportunity where you can make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people?
We are seeking a committed and proactive Learning Support Team Leader to oversee and develop the learning support team within a specialist setting. You will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, supporting emotional regulation and ensuring pupils receive the guidance and consistency they need to thrive.
The role requires a strong understanding of the relationship between behaviour and communication, alongside a commitment to helping young people develop resilience, independence and positive coping strategies.
You will draw on therapeutic and relationship-based approaches, including PACE, the Thrive approach and the Five Point Scale, to help pupils feel supported and develop the skills needed to manage their emotions and behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the learning support team, ensuring staff provide consistent, high-quality support to pupils.
- Work closely with senior leaders, the SENDCo, families and external agencies to develop effective support strategies.
- Oversee behaviour support plans, pupil wellbeing strategies and reward systems.
- Promote inclusive practice and ensure pupils' individual needs are understood and appropriately supported.
- Deliver and coordinate staff development and training in safeguarding, inclusion and positive handling approaches.
- Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and support plans, identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensure practice aligns with relevant safeguarding requirements, statutory guidance and school policies.
- Encourage a positive, therapeutic learning environment where pupils feel safe, respected and able to make progress.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills, alongside experience supporting young people with a range of additional needs. You will be confident in guiding and developing a team, managing challenging situations and building positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
A genuine commitment to inclusive education, emotional wellbeing and helping young people overcome barriers to learning is essential.
What’s on Offer?
- A supportive and approachable senior leadership team.
- The opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of teachers and support staff.
- Access to a wider professional network and opportunities to share best practice.
- Ongoing professional development tailored to individual skills and career goals.
- Opportunities for career progression and further professional growth.
- A positive workplace culture that values staff wellbeing and work-life balance.
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme, including confidential support and counselling.
- Additional staff benefits, including free eye tests for eligible display screen equipment users, a will-writing service and discounted corporate gym membership.
- Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme for eligible support staff.
