Lease Accounting Implementation Project

Project Overview We are a consulting team within EY Strategy and Consulting that helps organizations improve how work is performed across people, processes, and systems. We support clients by reviewing how teams operate, documenting processes, clarifying responsibilities, and helping organizations build sustainable ways of working.

For each engagement, we work with highly skilled external subcontractors (subject matter experts, or SMEs) who bring deep, hands-on expertise in areas such as accounting, finance, tax, and human resources.

For this engagement, we are seeking an experienced Lease Accounting Implementation Specialist to support a global client as it adopts new lease accounting standards.

This is a hands-on, project-based role. It suits accounting professionals who can work independently, manage their own workstream, and coordinate with finance and business stakeholders. The client's management keeps responsibility for final accounting judgments, approvals, and submissions.

How You Would Contribute (Scope Of Work) As part of the team, you would apply your expertise through activities such as:

• Supporting the implementation of lease accounting standards across the organization
• Assessing current lease accounting processes, controls, and data requirements
• Coordinating the collection, validation, and analysis of lease contract information
• Supporting lease inventory creation, data cleansing, and migration
• Supporting the interpretation of lease accounting requirements and the application of accounting policy, for client review and approval
• Preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting documentation for lease balances
• Supporting fixed asset and depreciation accounting for right-of-use assets
• Preparing J-GAAP to IFRS / US GAAP adjustment schedules and supporting HQ reporting packs
• Supporting the tax adjustment schedules affected by lease accounting changes
• Working with Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Real Estate, Legal, and other teams to gather the information the project needs
• Identifying implementation risks, issues, and dependencies, and supporting their resolution
• Supporting the development of accounting procedures, process documentation, and operating manuals
• Supporting system configuration, testing, and user acceptance activities where applicable
• Preparing audit schedules and evidence, and supporting the client in working with internal and external auditors
• Communicating with local teams in Japanese, giving status updates, and raising issues appropriately

Experience That Would Be Valuable

• 5 to 8 years in accounting, finance transformation, accounting advisory, or consulting
• Hands-on experience with an accounting standard implementation or a major accounting change
• Strong knowledge of IFRS 16, ASC 842, or J-GAAP lease accounting requirements
• Strong Excel and financial data analysis skills

Nice To Have

• CPA, US CPA, JCPA, or an equivalent qualification
• Experience with lease accounting software or ERP implementation projects
• Experience in shipping, logistics, or other asset-intensive industries, including vessel charters or other complex lease arrangements
• Experience with large lease portfolios and multi-currency contracts in a large corporate finance environment
• Project management experience

Engagement Style You would work collaboratively with EY consultants and client teams, contributing practical, hands-on expertise while our team supports process design, documentation, and implementation activities. The exact focus areas may evolve as the project progresses, depending on client priorities and findings.
