Lease Accounting Manager
We are seeking an experienced Lease Accounting Manager to lead technical lease accounting, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives within a dynamic, multi-property organization. This role will serve as a subject matter expert on complex lease accounting matters, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards while strengthening internal controls, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience with ASC 842, and the ability to partner with corporate finance, property accounting teams, auditors, and executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Accounting & Compliance: Research, interpret, and provide guidance on complex lease accounting matters under ASC 842, GASB, and other applicable accounting frameworks. Ensure consistent application of accounting policies across corporate and property-level teams.
- Lease Accounting Management: Oversee the classification, review, and accounting treatment of leases to ensure accurate recognition of lease assets, liabilities, and related expenses in accordance with applicable standards.
- Lease Lifecycle Oversight: Manage the full lease accounting lifecycle, including new lease onboarding, modifications, renewals, expirations, and terminations, in collaboration with property accounting teams.
- Lease Accounting Systems: Oversee the accuracy and integrity of the lease database and LeaseQuery system. Ensure lease data is maintained and updated timely to support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Journal Entries & Reconciliations: Review and approve monthly lease accounting journal entries generated through LeaseQuery. Oversee balance sheet reconciliations for lease assets and liabilities, investigate discrepancies, and ensure alignment between the lease subledger and general ledger.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and review lease rollforwards, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial statement disclosures. Analyze lease-related financial data across multiple properties to identify anomalies, improve accuracy, and support business decisions.
- Audit & Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with corporate financial reporting, property accounting, internal teams, external auditors, and executive stakeholders to address technical inquiries, support audit requests, and meet critical reporting deadlines.
- Process Improvement & Internal Controls: Develop, document, and enhance lease accounting policies, procedures, workflows, checklists, and internal controls to promote consistency, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Leadership & Special Projects: Provide technical guidance and support to accounting teams, contribute to system enhancements and process improvements, and perform special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- CPA, master's degree in accounting, or public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ASC 842 lease accounting responsibilities.
