Leather worker - clicker/pattern cutter

James Taylor & Son is a 165 year-old bespoke shoemaking company with a head office in London and a manufacturing base in Weston-super-mare. We combine traditional handmaking processes with state-of-the-art design and manufacturing technology to create accurate, high quality bespoke and orthopaedic footwear for a wide range of private clients.

Summary

We are looking for a clicker / pattern cutter to cut high quality leather to precise and unique patterns as part of our bespoke upper making operation. Alongside leather cutting you will also be involved in other detailed leather work such as broguing and eyelet setting.

Requirements

• An aptitude and enthusiasm for hand working. You will have some knowledge and experience of a relevant area such as dress-making, saddlery, upholstery or some other activity involving precise hand work.
• A strong work ethic. Although this is a part-time role, the work is important to the business and needs to be done on time and to a high standard.
• Physical fitness. The nature of this work is quite physically demanding and involves standing at a work bench for significant periods and performing precise physical tasks.

This is a job with excellent potential for the right candidate. It could develop into a full-time role or can be maintained as a steady part-time position. Ultimately some homeworking could be possible.
