Leatherworker — Project-Based

BAJAFF, a small independent NYC menswear brand, is looking for a leatherworker / leather artisan for occasional project-based work.

We’re a newly launched independent men’s belt brand, currently transitioning production from Italy to New York. Our belts are made in small runs using premium Italian leather and vintage hardware, with each belt finished to the customer’s specifications.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with leather and would be interested in helping with occasional paid projects as the brand grows. The work is primarily straightforward leather finishing and customization, with opportunities to get involved in prototypes and new ideas as the collection develops.

Projects will initially be occasional rather than a steady weekly workload, so this could be a good fit for someone who wants flexible paid work alongside school, another job, freelance work, or their own creative projects.

The work

• Adjust belt lengths to customer measurements
• Punch additional sizing holes
• Install decorative studs, rivets, and other hardware
• Finish and burnish edges
• Inspect finished belts and handle basic quality control
• Help with prototypes, samples, and occasional new product ideas
• Other small leatherworking projects as the collection develops

The setup

• Freelance / project-based
• Paid work — compensation agreed per project based on the task
• No fixed schedule or minimum hours
• Flexible timing; projects can be completed around your schedule
• Work is primarily independent
• Initially occasional, with the possibility of more work as the brand grows

Who we're looking for

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with leather and making things, whether you’re an experienced leatherworker, student, hobbyist, or developing your own craft practice.

Relevant backgrounds could include:

• Leatherworking / leathercraft
• Shoemaking or cobbling
• Saddlery
• Fashion or product design
• Craft / fabrication
• Students or recent graduates in related fields
• Serious hobbyists with hands-on experience

You should be comfortable working with basic leatherworking tools and ideally have access to your own tools and workspace, since projects will generally be completed independently.

If you have examples of your work, feel free to include them. A portfolio, photos, Instagram, personal website, or a few examples of things you’ve made are all welcome.

NYC-based applicants preferred.

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 5.0 per week
