About This Opportunity

Join a collaborative community of robotics and mechatronics academics working across disciplinary boundaries to shape the next generation of engineers. As a Lecturer, you will deliver engaging teaching, coordinate courses and help design the new Robotics and Mechatronic Engineering plan, connecting contemporary practice in robotics, mechatronics, signal processing, control systems and engineering programming with an exceptional student experience. You will also contribute to purposeful research, student supervision, academic service and partnerships within and beyond UQ.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching: Design, coordinate and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including lectures, tutorials, assessment and student supervision. Contribute to innovative curriculum and assessment design informed by contemporary educational practice, student feedback and industry needs.
  • Research: Collaborate with colleagues and postgraduate students on interdisciplinary research projects, contribute to quality research outputs and apply responsible, contemporary research methodologies.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Honours, bachelor’s thesis and Higher Degree by Research students, supporting the development of their technical capabilities, professional confidence and responsible research practice.
  • Citizenship and Service: Build productive partnerships with colleagues, industry, government, professional bodies and the wider community. Contribute to internal service roles, mentor others and consistently demonstrate UQ values.

This is a teaching focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.

About You

  • A PhD in robotics or mechatronic engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A growing profile in teaching and research in robotics, mechatronics or related areas such as signal processing, control systems or engineering programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across different settings, including small and large student groups.
  • Experience designing effective learning materials and assessment tasks, using contemporary teaching approaches and technologies to promote student engagement.
  • Demonstrated course delivery experience, with course coordination experience highly regarded.
  • Experience contributing to curriculum development, pedagogical innovation or continuous improvement in programs, courses and assessment practices.
  • A developing record of supervising undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, Honours or Higher Degree by Research students.
  • Evidence of collaborative research, responsible research practice, effective academic service and engagement with colleagues, industry or other external partners.

We particularly welcome applications from women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who may be underrepresented in this discipline.
