Legal Manager

Job Purpose Summary

The Legal Manager provides legal support across business units, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. A team player to align and work together with other managers in the legal department.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Functional (job responsibilities)

• Provide timely and practical legal advice to internal stakeholders.

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents across various business areas including insurance, property, finance, and employment.

• Identify legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

• Support corporate exercises and regulatory submissions (if any).

• Liaise with external counsel and monitor performance.

• Assist in developing legal policies, procedures, and templates.

• Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

• Assist the Head of Legal on all matters related to the Legal Division as assigned from time to time.

• Ensure compliance to policies, guidelines, and regulations.

• Perform other duties as delegated by the Head of Legal.

Managerial (team/group responsibilities)

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.

Organizational (organizational responsibilities)

• Effective liaison with all business units across the organization on legal matters and provides necessary inputs where required.
• Adept at using technology to enhance legal and compliance functions.

Jobholder Requirements

Education/Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) and related experience;
• Qualified advocate & solicitor in Malaysia.

Experience/Requirements

• 7 to 10 years of legal experience, preferably in financial services or insurance.
• Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills.
• Analytical, proactive, and able to work independently and in teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with legal tech tools.
• Demonstrates initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Drives change through strategic and innovative thinking.
