Level 3 Technician

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Level 3 Automotive Technician to join our busy and professional workshop team. The successful candidate will have strong diagnostic abilities, extensive hands-on experience, and a passion for vehicle maintenance, repair, and customer service.

This role is suited to a qualified, experienced technician who can work independently, diagnose complex vehicle faults, carry out high-quality repairs, and help maintain excellent workshop standards.

The ideal candidate will be confident working on modern vehicles, using diagnostic equipment and manufacturer repair information, while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out vehicle servicing, maintenance, inspections, and mechanical repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle faults.
• Use diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and technical information systems to identify faults accurately.
• Carry out engine, transmission, braking, suspension, steering, and other vehicle system repairs.
• Perform vehicle health checks, identify additional repair requirements, and report findings clearly.
• Complete pre-delivery inspections, safety checks, and road tests where appropriate.
• Interpret diagnostic trouble codes, wiring diagrams, and technical repair information.
• Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently, accurately, and within agreed timeframes.
• Maintain accurate job cards, service records, inspection reports, and diagnostic findings.
• Follow manufacturer procedures, company policies, and relevant UK health and safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
• Support and mentor junior technicians and apprentices where required.
• Work closely with service advisers, workshop controllers, and management to ensure excellent customer service and workshop productivity.
• Keep up to date with new vehicle technologies, diagnostic methods, and technical developments.

Essential Requirements

• A recognised Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, such as a relevant IMI or City & Guilds qualification, or an equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience working as a qualified vehicle technician in a busy automotive workshop.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
• Demonstrable experience diagnosing and resolving complex vehicle faults.
• Competence using modern vehicle diagnostic equipment and workshop tools.
• Good understanding of manufacturer service schedules and repair procedures.
• Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively, and meet deadlines.
• A methodical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
• A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience working with franchised dealerships or independent specialist garages.
• Manufacturer-specific training or accreditation.
• Experience with hybrid and electric vehicles, with appropriate high-voltage training for any work undertaken.
• MOT Tester qualification, where relevant to the role.
• Experience using electronic workshop management systems.
• Previous experience supporting or mentoring junior technicians.
• Knowledge of warranty procedures and manufacturer technical bulletins.
