About the role

Wesley Methodist School Penang (International) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Librarian to join our school community in Jelutong, Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in supporting our students' academic success and fostering a love of learning and literacy across the school. As Librarian, you will be responsible for managing our library resources, promoting information literacy, and creating an engaging learning environment that supports the curriculum and enriches students' educational experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the school library collection, including cataloguing, classification, and organisation of books, digital resources, and multimedia materials
• Develop and implement library policies, procedures, and programmes that support teaching and learning objectives
• Provide information literacy instruction to students across all year groups, teaching research skills, critical thinking, and effective resource usage
• Collaborate with teaching staff to support curriculum delivery and create integrated learning experiences that incorporate library resources
• Oversee library operations, including budgeting, acquisition of new materials, and maintenance of library facilities and equipment
• Curate and promote reading programmes, author visits, book clubs, and other literacy initiatives to encourage student engagement
• Provide reference and research support services to students and staff
• Manage library technology systems, including the library management system and digital databases
• Create and maintain an inclusive, welcoming library environment that caters to diverse learning needs
• Supervise library student helpers and support staff

What we're looking for

• A qualification in Library Science, Information Management, or a related field (such as a Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent professional qualification)
• Proven experience working in a school library or educational setting, ideally in an international or multilingual environment
• Strong knowledge of library management systems, digital cataloguing, and educational databases
• Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
• Proficiency in information literacy instruction and evidence-based library practices that support student learning outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with educators, administrators, and students to support curriculum integration
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of additional languages is advantageous
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders
• A passion for promoting reading, critical thinking, and a love of learning amongst young people
• Experience with digital resources, e-learning platforms, and emerging library technologies
• Knowledge of international education standards and best practices in library services is preferred
