At Wilderness, we strive to enable each student to be the best that she can be.

About the Role

We are seeking a capable and enthusiastic Library Technician to join our Learning Resources team.

This permanent part time position, reporting to the Head of Learning Resources, provides technical and administrative support in the day to day operation and use of the Wilderness Library and Resource facility, ensuring it fully supports School curriculum activities, projects, initiatives and special events. This role works 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, term time only. However, we are negotiable on the number of days per week.

The successful applicant will operate and maintain the Library Management System (AccessIt) and the ClickView library, undertake cataloguing and resource processing, purchase and process new resources, and manage Library technology including iPads, Cricut and 3D printers. Just as importantly, they will work directly with students and staff, assisting with research and database searching, offering Reader's Advisory, supervising students before and after school and during break times, and creating displays that promote reading engagement.

The role also plays a key part in the events that bring our Library to life, including Bedtime Stories, Book Week, Games Week, Comic Book Week, Library Lovers Day and the Premier's Reading Challenge.

Here at Wilderness, we aim to grow a team of people who are:

  • Passionate about reading, research and helping young people find the right resource
  • Technically confident with library systems, online databases and creative technologies
  • Meticulous and methodical in cataloguing, processing and record keeping
  • Warm and approachable, able to relate effectively to students, staff and parents
  • Collaborative and flexible, contributing generously to the wider Library team and School community

About You

  • Appropriate qualification (e.g. Diploma of Library and Information Services) or equivalent, together with previous school environment experience directly relevant to this role
  • Highly developed knowledge and experience in the use of library management systems; knowledge of AccessIt preferred
  • Experience in Library routines and practices, including cataloguing
  • Proven experience in Reader's Advisory
  • High level of ICT literacy skills including word processing, database and spreadsheet application.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, PowerPoint, Canva, 3D printing software or similar
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively to students, staff and parents
  • Proven capacity to operate in a collaborative, professional, confident and confidential manner, with evidence of ethical behaviour in all professional duties
  • Flexibility to work rostered hours is an essential component of this role
