What they need
“Friday Night Lights. Lake Michigan Weekends. One Great Career.”
Your career in sports medicine. Your life in Northern Michigan.
What if your next athletic training position came with Friday night lights, a strong sports medicine team, and weekends spent on the trails, water, slopes, or exploring everything Northern Michigan has to offer?
Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center is looking for a full-time Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) to join our team in Petoskey, Michigan.
This is not a position where every day looks the same. You’ll split your time between our Petoskey physical therapy clinic and Petoskey High School, giving you the opportunity to work with athletes on the sidelines, support patients in the clinic, and build relationships throughout the community.
And when the workday is over? You’re already in one of Michigan’s best places to enjoy the outdoors.
What Your Week Could Look Like
As part of our sports medicine team, you’ll have a mix of clinical care, high school athletic training and event coverage.
At Petoskey High School, you’ll be an important resource for student-athletes, coaches and families. Responsibilities include:
- After-school athletic training room coverage
- Varsity athletic event and game coverage
- Injury evaluation and immediate care
- Pre- and post-game athlete care
- Rehabilitation and reconditioning
- Return-to-play guidance
- Injury prevention and sports performance programming
- Communication with athletes, parents, coaches, athletic directors, physicians and other healthcare providers
- Injury documentation and tracking
- Coverage of select community athletic events
In the clinic, you’ll work alongside our physical therapists and rehabilitation team, helping patients of all ages get Back in Action.
Clinical responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with orthopedic rehabilitation under the supervision of a physical therapist
- Supporting safe, high-quality patient care
- Therapeutic exercise and clinical modalities
- Aquatic rehabilitation
- Wellness and injury-prevention programs
- Communication and collaboration with the clinical team
This is a 40-hour, full-time position that includes clinical hours, high school responsibilities and athletic event coverage. Evening and weekend hours are part of the position and will vary depending on the sports schedule.
Why Northern Michigan?
You shouldn't have to choose between building your career and having a great place to call home.
Living and working in Petoskey puts you minutes from Lake Michigan, trails, beaches, golf courses, ski hills and year-round outdoor recreation. Whether your ideal weekend involves boating, biking, hiking, skiing, fishing, golfing or simply getting outside, Northern Michigan makes it easy.
Here, athletic trainers also have the opportunity to become part of the community—not just cover its games.
What We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is dependable, collaborative and excited about working with athletes and patients.
Requirements include:
- BOC-certified Athletic Trainer
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine or applicable professional degree
- Appropriate eligibility for Michigan licensure
- Clinical experience preferred
- High school athletic training room and event coverage experience preferred
- Reliable transportation
- Strong communication and organizational skills
