Part-Time Clinical Psychologist

Psychological Assessment, Diagnostic Consultation and Select Patient Care

Organization: Primal Point Health
Location: Maryland; primarily on-site with limited telehealth as clinically appropriate
Schedule: One reserved day weekly or every other week
Engagement: Part-time independent contractor
Compensation: $90–$120 per hour, depending on assessment experience and specialty expertise, with a guaranteed six-hour minimum per confirmed specialty day

About Primal Point Health

Primal Point Health is an integrated outpatient mental and primary care practice committed to accessible, evidence-based and patient-centered care. Our multidisciplinary team provides psychiatric evaluation, medication management, psychotherapy and primary care services.

We are expanding our specialty services by adding a licensed clinical psychologist who can provide psychological assessment, diagnostic clarification, consultation and selected ongoing clinical care.

Position Overview

The clinical psychologist will lead a designated psychology specialty day at Primal Point Health. The day will combine psychological assessment activities with diagnostic consultations, feedback appointments and a small number of carefully selected therapy patients.

This opportunity is designed for a psychologist seeking a stable, recurring professional relationship without the obligations of a full-time position. The initial schedule may begin every other week and expand to one day per week as referral volume grows.

Primal Point Health will provide referrals, scheduling assistance, office space, EHR access, billing support and interdisciplinary collaboration. The psychologist will retain independent clinical responsibility for test selection, administration, interpretation, diagnosis and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive diagnostic and psychological evaluations.
  • Provide diagnostic clarification for complex psychiatric presentations.
  • Assess conditions such as ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders and personality concerns.
  • Complete cognitive, personality, behavioral or other specialty assessments within the psychologist’s documented competence.
  • Review clinical records and select appropriate assessment instruments.
  • Administer, score and interpret psychological tests.
  • Prepare clear, integrated and clinically useful psychological reports.
  • Provide feedback sessions to patients and families.
  • Develop evidence-based treatment and referral recommendations.
  • Provide consultation to psychiatric, primary care and psychotherapy clinicians.
  • See a limited number of psychotherapy or diagnostic-consultation patients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of testing, interpretation, report-writing and patient-contact time.
  • Complete reports within the agreed turnaround period, generally 10–14 business days.
  • Participate in periodic interdisciplinary case consultations and quality-improvement activities.
  • Follow applicable ethical, legal, payer and documentation requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Active, unrestricted Maryland psychologist license.
  • Formal graduate and supervised training in psychological assessment.
  • Demonstrated competence in psychological test administration, scoring, interpretation and integrated report writing.
  • Current professional-liability insurance.
  • Current individual NPI and eligibility for payer credentialing.
  • Strong diagnostic, communication and interdisciplinary-collaboration skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent professional judgment.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, ethical and patient-centered care.
  • Ability to complete background checks and organizational credentialing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an APA-accredited doctoral program.
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship.
  • Experience evaluating adults with ADHD and complex psychiatric presentations.
  • Training in personality and cognitive assessment.
  • Experience with autism, trauma, neuropsychological screening or other specialty evaluations.
  • Experience working in an outpatient multidisciplinary practice.
  • Experience with commercial insurance, Medicare or Maryland Medicaid documentation requirements.
  • Interest in helping develop a growing psychological-assessment service line.

Typical Specialty Day

A typical reserved day may include:

  • One new diagnostic or testing intake
  • Two to three hours of test administration and scoring
  • Two to three hours of interpretation and report preparation
  • One to two assessment-feedback, psychotherapy or diagnostic-consultation appointment
  • Protected time for documentation and interdisciplinary coordination

The exact schedule will be adjusted according to the psychologist’s specialty, patient needs, authorization requirements and assessment complexity.

Compensation and Practice Support

  • Guaranteed six-hour minimum for each mutually confirmed specialty day
  • Potential progression from biweekly to weekly scheduling
  • Compensation for authorized clinical interviews, testing, scoring, interpretation, report preparation, feedback and scheduled consultation
  • Administrative scheduling and patient-coordination support
  • Billing and credentialing assistance
  • Furnished clinical space and EHR access
  • Established psychiatric and primary care referral network
  • Opportunity to shape Primal Point Health’s psychological-assessment program
  • Potential for expanded leadership, consultation and specialty-program responsibilities

Specialized expertise in autism, neuropsychological assessment or forensic evaluation may qualify for a different compensation structure.

Independent Professional Role

The psychologist will maintain independent responsibility for clinical methods, assessment selection, interpretation, diagnostic conclusions and signed reports. The engagement will be governed by a written professional-services agreement defining scheduling, compensation, documentation, confidentiality, malpractice coverage, billing responsibilities and completion of active cases.

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • Current résumé or curriculum vitae
  • Brief statement describing your assessment specialties and preferred patient population
  • Copy or verification of your Maryland psychologist license
  • List of psychological instruments and assessment areas in which you are trained
