Position Summary

The Master Electrician is responsible for planning, designing, supervising, installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment to ensure safe, code-compliant, and efficient operation. This position provides technical leadership, oversight, and guidance to electricians, apprentices, and project teams while ensuring all work complies with applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, project specifications, and company standards.

Scope of Responsibilities

The position involves overseeing electrical installations, power distribution systems, low-voltage systems, fiber optic infrastructure, underground utilities, communication systems, ISP work, manhole operations, and commercial construction projects. The Master Electrician is responsible for maintaining jobsite safety, quality control, and compliance while managing crews and supporting project execution from start to finish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise, coordinate, and inspect the work of electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors.
• Plan, layout, install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with electrical codes, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to ensure proper installation and code compliance.
• Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, motor controls, generators, and related equipment.
• Install and oversee power supply wiring, conduit systems, cable trays, underground infrastructure, and communication cabling systems.
• Lead fiber optic cable installations, terminations, testing, and troubleshooting in communication and power spaces.
• Diagnose and resolve complex electrical system issues using advanced testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Perform electrical load calculations and verify system capacities and design requirements.
• Ensure all work complies with National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, OSHA regulations, and company safety standards.
• Conduct inspections and quality-control reviews throughout project execution and upon project completion.
• Coordinate with project managers, customers, inspectors, engineers, building principals, and supervisors.
• Prepare material takeoffs, labor estimates, schedules, and project documentation.
• Manage inventory and accountability of company-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, inspections, testing results, and project progress.
• Train, mentor, and develop electricians and apprentices to improve technical skills and safety awareness.
• Respond to emergency service calls and provide technical support when required.
• Ensure all job sites are maintained in a safe, organized, and professional manner.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the electrical field.
• Valid Texas Master Electrician License (TDLR).
• Extensive knowledge of commercial electrical construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Experience supervising electrical crews and managing projects.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and emergency service calls as needed.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with a professional presence.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Technical Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), local electrical codes, and OSHA regulations.
• Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, motor controls, fire alarm systems, low-voltage systems, and communication infrastructure.
• Knowledge of fiber optic installations, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and technical documents.
• Ability to perform electrical calculations, load analysis, and system evaluations.
• Proficiency with electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work from ladders, lifts, rooftops, confined spaces, and underground structures.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
• Ability to distinguish colors for electrical wiring identification.
