Licensed Mechanical/Electrical Engineer

About the role

The WM Engineer reports to the WM Officer within the Wastewater Management Division, Facilities Maintenance Department. The role is responsible for managing essential daily procedures, establishing best practices, and overseeing preventive maintenance work on instrumentation, mechanical and electrical systems within wastewater management facilities to ensure compliance with requirements and minimize impact on wastewater treatment operations.

Key responsibilities

• Handle essential daily procedures that need to be followed in the WMD to prevent unplanned downtime
• Establish and enforce best practices for all tasks and functions within all WMD facilities
• Schedule and coordinate inspections, repairs, testing and calibration of all instrumentation, electrical and mechanical systems
• Oversee all preventive maintenance work on all instrumentation, mechanical or electrical systems of the facilities
• Research and develop planned enhancements for future instrumentation, mechanical and electrical equipment acquisitions and stay abreast with new technology and procedures
• Assist all departments in executing plans and projects for improvements, and monitor building systems to correct defective and inefficient operations
• Use necessary and available tools and procedures to facilitate the normal flow of activities, operations, services and information
• Manage purchasing of parts, tools and supplies needed for maintenance of all plant and equipment, and maintain records and inventory
• Participate in the selection of third-party resources in responding to normal day to day work orders and emergencies
• Keep and maintain daily log reports, investigate deficiencies and recommend steps to help solve problems and issues

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Graduate of Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic and Communication (ECE) Engineering course Licensed Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Engineer.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Preferably with Professional Driver’s License (Manual Transmission)

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Variety of maintenance tools, instruments and equipment.
• Office equipment, computers including software used for asset management.

WORKING CONDITIONS and OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS

• Work at 24/7 operations with rotating 8-hr shift schedule On Call during weekend and/or off-duty hours. Required to travel to field locations.
• Combination of wastewater treatment plant, laboratory and office environments with occasional exposure to adverse weather and environmental conditions Work environment requiring consistent use of appropriate PPE may include:
• exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat/cold environment.
• exposure to fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, airborne particles and infectious diseases,
• works in high, precarious places,
• works in close quarters or confined spaces,
• works around moving mechanical parts,
• exposure to moderate to high noise and vibration levels, and/or
• exposure to electrical hazards.
