Licensed Veterinary Technician

La Fond Veterinary Hospital is seeking a full-time experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team. We are an independent veterinary hospital that was established in 1928 with a long and respected history of taking care of the pets of Detroit and the surrounding areas. We are located on the border of Detroit and Ferndale in the lovely Green Acres Community. We take care of pets from all of the surrounding areas and provide thorough, friendly and compassionate care at a reasonable price. We are a one Doctor practice which allows you to work alongside the Doctor. You will be able to utilize your full skills that you were trained to do Including technician appointments. We have a new digital Xray machine, newer dental unit, and in-house Idexx labs.

Job responsibilities include

Setting up the clinic for the day. Checking in patients and obtaining a medical history. Must be friendly with clients and pets, restraining for the Doctor to examine, drawing up vaccines and administering them. Calculating dosages under Doctor supervision and administration of medications. Calculation of drugs for surgery, assisting in surgery and monitoring of patients in surgery and post operative. Drawing bloodwork and running bloodwork machines, ear cytology, dental cleanings, placing IV catheters, taking radiographs, assisting with euthanasia. Other responsibilities include assisting with phones and assisting fellow coworkers when they are busy. Assisting with closing down the hospital for the day which does require some cleaning. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and the job does require long hours standing. This is not meant to be an all inclusive list of duties but general guidelines. We are currently working four 12 hour shifts on average with a one hour unpaid lunch break on average. We are currently working one Saturday each month.
