Company Description Boys & Girls Village, founded in 1942, supports children and families in at-risk situations by strengthening their ability to succeed in life. The organization provides a comprehensive range of services, including behavioral health care, special education for grades K–12, in-home therapy, outpatient clinical services, therapeutic foster care, and residential programs for youth with Problem Sexual Behavior. It also offers transitional training, permanency planning, and multiple programs for court-involved youth, focusing on the “whole child” to promote positive development. Boys & Girls Village serves clients from 50 Connecticut communities, primarily in Fairfield and New Haven counties, through locations in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Milford, and Waterbury, with highly skilled staff dedicated to helping youth heal, learn, and grow.

Role Description The Life Safety Officer part time role, on-site role based in Bridgeport, CT & Milford, CT This role is responsible for monitoring and maintaining a safe physical environment across the facility, including conducting regular safety inspections, checking equipment, and ensuring compliance with fire, health, and building codes. The Life Safety Officer will develop and update safety procedures, assist with emergency preparedness plans, and coordinate drills such as fire and evacuation exercises. Daily responsibilities include documenting safety findings, reporting hazards, following up on corrective actions, and collaborating with program staff and leadership to promote a culture of safety for children, adolescents, families, and employees. The role may also involve providing safety training, supporting incident response, and liaising with external safety and regulatory agencies when needed.

Qualifications

Shift is Monday & Wednesday 4pm-8pm in Bridgeport, Sunday 9am-5:30pm in Milford. 16hrs weekly

• Knowledge of life safety codes, fire safety standards, and building safety regulations, with the ability to apply them in a residential and educational setting.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, and maintaining accurate safety documentation and reports.
• Ability to develop, implement, and update safety policies, emergency plans, and drills, including fire, lockdown, and evacuation procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to train staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and interact respectfully with youth and families.
• Basic technical skills for operating and checking safety-related systems and equipment (e.g., alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting), with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively in emergencies or high-stress situations.
• Prior experience in human services, healthcare, education, or residential programs serving children and adolescents is highly beneficial.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in safety, security, fire protection, or related fields is preferred.
