Lifeguard

Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Lifeguards create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Lifeguards maintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff. They maintain active surveillance of the pool area, are proactive in injury prevention, and know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the aquatic area.

Schedule: 4:45am – 9:00am

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas

· Promote member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

· Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and is proactive in injury prevention

· Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for aquatic area

· Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code

· Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available

· Check pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and during shift

· Clean pool deck area when not guarding and take appropriate action as required

· Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum of 18 years of age

· Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required

· CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certifications required

ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT:

Employees who directly supervise youth will:

· Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth

· Attend required abuse risk management training

· Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth

· Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations

· Follow mandated abuse reporting requirement

Job Types: Part-time, Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
